Skyhawks Defeat Squadron in Lone Preseason Game

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. – The College Park Skyhawks defeated the Birmingham Squadron, 119-95 at the Gateway Center Arena on Saturday afternoon in the team’s lone preseason game. The team’s Showcase Cup schedule will begin on Friday, Nov. 4 against Long Island.


College Park was led by Armoni Brooks, who finished with 30 points on 10-14 FG and 8-12 3FG.

The Skyhawks opened the contest with a high-scoring 37-point first quarter, topping the Squadron’s 31 points. The Skyhawks connected on six threes in the opening frame, led by Brooks’ three makes.

Brooks’ hot start continued into the second quarter, where he added eight points to his tally, including two made threes. The 6-2 guard’s 19 points and six rebounds helped propel the Skyhawks to a 67-52 halftime lead. His backcourt partner, Brandon Williams, added 12 points of his own in the opening half as the Skyhawks shot .615% from the field.

The Skyhawks poured in 35 points in the third quarter to extend their lead to 102-77.

The Skyhawks were able to maintain their lead and wrap things up in the fourth, with contributions from Daniel Utomi (eight points), Terrell Brown Jr. (seven points), and Jared Rhoden (10 points). The Skyhawks finished with 19 threes on 36 attempts (.528 3FG%) and 26 assists.

The Squadron were led by 15 points apiece from Kelan Martin and Daeqwon Plowden.

“We wanted to make this as game-like as possible,” said Skyhawks Head Coach Steve Gansey. “We wanted to get these guys ready for next week, and our guys’ approach to today was great.”

The Skyhawks will open the Showcase Cup portion of the NBA G League schedule with a two-game home series against the Long Island Nets on Friday, Nov. 4 and Sunday, Nov. 6. The first game will tip at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, with the conclusion set for 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.
