Warriors Sign Scrum Half Connor McLeod

October 19, 2022 – Major League Rugby (MLR)Utah Warriors News Release

HERRIMAN, Utah – The Utah Warriors have signed Scrum Half Connor McLeod to a multi-year contract ahead of the 2023 MLR Season.

“It was an easy decision when Greg Cooper and the Warriors approached me,” said McLeod. “I have heard great things about the Warriors organization, fan-base and the direction they are wanting to head. The opportunity to play professional rugby in a quickly developing league is exciting. I’m looking forward to experiencing a new team environment and lifestyle in the US.”

“It is always great to sign a player in a team decision-making role from an organization like Hawkes Bay, whose core values align to our’s here at the Utah Warriors,” said Warriors’ General Manager Brandon Sparks. “Connor will be a great addition to our squad both for our performance and culture. Kudos to Greg [Cooper] and the coaching staff for putting in the hard work to find him.”

McLeod (5-8, 165) is an up-and-coming halfback in his native country of New Zealand, where he first learned the sport of rugby. He joins the Utah Warriors after spending the past three seasons with Hawkes Bay, competing in the NPC in New Zealand. McLeod also played two seasons for the Hurricanes Development Team in Super Rugby, from 2020-21.

Prior to his time in Super Rugby and the NPC, McLeod played for Otago and Otago U19, where he was named the Back of the Year. The 25-year-old scrum half has also represented New Zealand Universities at the international level.

“The last 4 seasons in the NPC competition have helped me grow as a player,” said McLeod. “I am looking forward to adding my knowledge and skill set where I can at the Warriors.”

Fans can secure their seats to see Connor McLeod and the rest of the Utah Warriors in action in 2023 by visiting warriorsrugby.com or call the Warriors Ticket Line at 801-477-7652.
