SLC Stars Announce 2022-23 Schedule, Maverik Center as New Home Arena
October 10, 2022 – NBA G League (G League) – Salt Lake City Stars News Release
SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, today released their 50-game 2022-23 schedule and announced that the Maverik Center in West Valley City will be their new home arena. The franchise’s seventh season in Utah tips off with a five-game road trip beginning on Nov. 6 ahead of its home debut at the Maverik Center on Nov. 21.
“The Stars look forward to starting this new era in our new home at the Maverik Center and to enhancing the game-night experience for both our fans and players,” said Stars President Jonathan Rinehart. “Based in West Valley City, the Stars will maintain our proximity to the Jazz and continue to serve an important development role for the franchise, while also growing our commitment to that community.”
The Maverik Center, owned by West Valley City and operated by Centennial Management Group, Inc., combines the modern amenities of a large arena with the service and intimacy of a small theater. It opened in September of 1997 and later gained international acclaim as the host of the ice hockey competition at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The Maverik Center is also the longtime home to the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies hockey club.
“We are thrilled to become the new home for the Stars and provide the community with another top-tier professional sports experience as we continue to optimize the Maverik Center and create innovative fan experiences,” said Kevin Bruder, Centennial Management Group CEO.
Stars games are family friendly and affordable fun, and they offer the chance to watch current and future Jazz players compete on the court. Game night also includes access to the University of Utah Health Kids Zone, featuring bounce houses, balloon artists and face painters as well as postgame player autographs. Ticket prices start at $14. For more information on tickets, please visit slcstars.com or call/text (801) 325-STAR.
The Stars 2022-23 campaign will consist of 24 home games, 24 road games and two neutral site games at the 2022 AT&T NBA G League Winter Showcase in Las Vegas. The two-part schedule returns with teams playing 16 games to determine qualification and seeding for the annual Showcase Cup tournament from Nov. 4-Dec. 17. Following the Showcase Cup, team records and statistics reset for the traditional 32-game regular season.
Key home dates include a two-game opener at the Maverik Center on Nov. 21-22 against the Santa Cruz Warriors; hosting the team of top NBA Draft prospects on G League Ignite on Nov. 28; and wrapping up the season with a three-game homestand against the South Bay Lakers on March 19 and Austin Spurs on March 21 and 23.
In addition, the Stars will also host Saturday night games at Vivint Arena, the home of the Utah Jazz, on Nov. 10 against the Ontario Clippers and Feb. 4 vs. the defending NBA G League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
Notable Stars road games include the franchise’s first trip to México City for a pair of regular season opening games at the Capitanes on Dec. 28 and 30 and three road matchups with G League Ignite at their new home in Henderson, Nev. (Nov. 6, Nov. 18 and Jan. 26). SLC will also travel southeast for a rare visit to Greensboro, N.C., on Feb. 8, followed by back-to-back games in Lakeland, Fla., on Feb. 10-11, marking the first time the Stars have visited the Swarm and Magic since 2018-19.
Salt Lake City’s month-by-month breakdown includes 10 games in November (three home, seven away), 10 games in December (five home, three away, two neutral site), 14 games in January (eight home, six away), eight games in February (four home, four away) and eight games in March (four home, four away).
The Stars schedule features nine back-to-back games (five home/home, four road/road). The team’s longest homestand spans five games from Dec. 5-14, with the longest road trip of five games to start the season on Nov. 6-18.
New for this NBA G League season, games that advance to overtime will be determined by a Final Target Score. The winner of overtime games during the season will be the first team to reach or surpass the Final Target Score, which will be the tied score after four quarters plus seven. Overtime will be untimed, and games will end when a team makes a basket or free throw to reach or surpass the Final Target Score.
Further details about the Stars 2022-23 season, including promotional/theme nights, broadcast information and single-game tickets will be released at a later date.
