Oklahoma City Blue Selects Hellems, Weathers, Starkey, Flory and Kangu in the 2022 NBA G League Draft

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The Oklahoma City Blue selected forward Jericole Hellems (fifth overall), guard Michael Weathers (eighth overall), center Noah Starkey (41st overall), guard Philip Flory (42nd overall) and guard Kevin Kangu (66th overall) during the 2022 NBA G League Draft, it was announced today.
Hellems (6-7, 205) played four years at North Carolina State and closed his collegiate career with 1,244 points, 469 rebounds, 142 assists and 96 steals. He became the 55th player in program history to record 1,000 career points and ranked 38th on the all-time scoring list while his 160 made three-pointers ranked 14th in program history.
Weathers (6-3, 175) appeared in 31 games (19 starts) during the 2021-22 season at SMU and averaged 11.0 points, 5.9 rebounds (11th AAC), 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals (8th AAC) and 1.5 blocked shots (5th AAC) his senior year. Weathers was named to the 2020-21 All-SWAC First Team and SWAC Newcomer of the Year after he started all 24 games he played in at Texas Southern and led the team in scoring with 16.5 points per game.
Starkey (6-11, 250) played with the Kirchheim Knights in Germany during the 2021-22 season and averaged 7.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists. The Hutchinson, Kansas native played four years at Southern Nazarene from 2015-2019 where he was named the 2018 Great American Conference Defender of the Year and was selected to the All-GAC Second Team as a junior.
Flory (6-6, 195) appeared in 23 games (all starts) with the Syracuse Stallions in the TBL during the 2021-22 season and averaged 10.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooing 51.0 percent from the floor in 26.5 minutes per game. He finished his college career at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where he averaged 20.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in the 2020-21 season.
Kangu (6-4, 180) played one game with the Oklahoma City Thunder at the 2022 NBA2K23 Summer League and recorded 3.0 points and 1.0 rebound in 23.8 minutes. Kangu transferred to Oakland University for the start of his junior season and appeared in 63 games (19 starts) and averaged 4.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 18.5 minutes per game over two years.
