Draft Day: NBA G League Draft Edition
October 21, 2022 – NBA G League (G League) – Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
The 2022 NBA G League Draft will be on Saturday, October 22, starting at 12:00pm CST. The Sioux Falls Skyforce own two picks (sixth overall in the first round and 35th overall in the second round) in the draft this year. This piece highlights 10 former Skyforce draft picks in the G League era.
Frank Williams
2006 Draft – 3rd Round – 26th Overall
The third ever Sioux Falls Skyforce G League draft pick made an impact in the two seasons he was with the team (2006-07 and 2008-09). Williams ranks third all-time in three pointers made (239), three pointers attempted (687) and ninth in free throw percentage (84.9 percent).
In 44 starts as a rookie, he averaged 15.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. Williams led the team in steals (1.78), minutes (34.7) points and assists. He was also named to the 2007 All-NBA G League Honorable Mention Team.
He played lethal as a one-two punch with Kasib Powell in 2008-09, where Williams averaged 17.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 47 games (43 starts).
Ronald Allen
2007 Draft – 6th Round – 79th Overall
Allen appeared in 16 games as a rookie in 2007-08 after making the team as a sixth round draft pick out of Cincinnati. He went on to play three more seasons in the NBA G League after his time with the Skyforce.
He has since returned to Sioux Falls and has joined Kasib Powell’s coaching staff ahead of the 2022-23 season. Both were teammates and roommates during the 2007-08 season.
Reggie Williams
2009 Draft – 3rd Round – 45th Overall
Williams went from an NBA G League draft pick to seven-year NBA veteran by the time it was all said and done.
In his lone season with the Skyforce, he averaged 26.4 points on 57.6 percent shooting (good for third all-time in Skyforce history), 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per 40.0 minutes a game. He scored 43 points three times in 2009-10, which is tied for fifth all-time in the organization’s history. Williams was also named to the 2009-10 All-NBA G League First Team, as well.
After earning an NBA Call-Up with the Golden State Warriors, Williams went on to average a career-high 15.2 points in 24 total games. He retired after the 2019-20 season after playing overseas in the Korean Basketball League.
