Game Preview: at Iowa Wolves
November 5, 2022 – NBA G League (G League) – Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
For the third straight season, the Sioux Falls Skyforce will open with a trip east to Des Moines to face the Iowa Wolves. In the inaugural Showcase Cup portion of the season, Sioux Falls went 2-10, but looks to improve in the second season under Kasib Powell.
Powell, a Sioux Falls resident said of the opportunity to lead the organization he earned two NBA Call-Ups from and NBA G League MVP in 2006.
“I learned a lot from the first year,” he expressed. “Just the opportunity to lead this team again excites me. I have a lot of pride in this opportunity. I am excited to get the season going, to be able to try new things, and be able to get the ball rolling different from last season. We have a year’s worth of experience now. Helping players reach their goals, small and large, is another thing that excites me. At the end of the day, that is what it’s about.”
Last season, Sioux Falls held leads at halftime of both games of a back-to-back to kick off the 2021-22 season, but ultimately dropped the contests. In the last contest at Wells Fargo Arena, on March 6, 2022, the Skyforce won a 115-89 decision led by an 82-65 run in the final three quarters. Mychal Mulder led the way with 27 points on 7-10 3PA and Chandler Hutchison chipped in 13 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and nine assists.
This season, the Skyforce returns Mulder, DJ Stewart, Hutchison and Dru Smith from a season ago. The four players combined to average 55.5 of Sioux Falls’ 107.9 points per game.
Smith is joined by Jamal Cain as two-way players this season.
Tip-off is slated for 7:00PM CST from Wells Fargo Arena in downtown Des Moines. The second game of the back-to-back will be Sunday at 3:00PM CST.
