September 17, 2022 – International League (IL)Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Wings had their five-game winning streak snapped after losing Saturday night’s contest to the IronPigs, 4-3.

The Wings gave sure-handed RHP Logan Verrett (7-9) the start and he didn’t disappoint going seven innings, surrendering one run on six hits.

In the bottom of the opening frame, an errant pick-off attempt by pitcher Cristopher Sanchez allowed the Wings to score first on a groundout from 1B John Nogowski.

After Lehigh Valley tied the game, Rochester retook the lead on a two-out, two-run double off the bat of Nogowski in the third inning. He finished the night with three RBI to his credit.

In the top of the eighth, the Wings brought in LHP Luis Avilan who threw 0.1 inning, giving up a two run homer in his short outing. He gave way to RHP Juan Minaya who also gave up a homer to give the IronPigs a 4-3 lead, their first lead of the night. Avilan gave up two earned runs on two hits. Minaya gave up one earned run on two hits while striking out one in his 1.1 innings of work.

The Wings sent LHP Matt Cronin to finish Rochester’s pitching effort.

After ripping his sixth-inning double, 3B Jake Alu has now reached base safely in 12-straight games.

The Wings look to win the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. They’ll send RHP Patrick Murphy (2-3) to the mound who comes off his best start of the year.
