Toronto Arrows Announce Signing of Canadian International Wing Davis

September 7, 2022 – Major League Rugby (MLR)Toronto Arrows News Release

TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Arrows are pleased to announce the signing of Canadian international wing Cole Davis for the 2023 Major League Rugby season.

Davis, 25, arrives at the club having most recently played for Rugby ATL, where the rapid back spent the latter portion of the 2022 season; the Calgary native was traded to Atlanta in May after spending the bulk of the previous two campaigns with the Austin Gilgronis.

“I was always excited about the potential opportunity to play for Toronto, and I can’t wait to get started,” said Davis. “It’s the home team for Canada, and even though I’m not from Toronto, I see the Arrows as my home team. It will be a great opportunity to reconnect with my Canadian teammates and meet several new ones, and I’m really looking forward to helping build on the team’s successes from last year and reach new heights.”

“I’m excited to work with Pete and the rest of the coaching staff, who have a clear roadmap in place for goalsetting, competing hard, and progressing as a group. Most of all, I’m just excited to arrive in Toronto, get to work, and help the team win a championship this year.”

The six-foot-two, 220-pound wing featured in 10 matches (seven starts) over his first two years of professional rugby, producing 407 carry metres on 51 carries, 36 tackles (80% completion), 51 ruck arrivals, 15 defenders beaten, three linebreaks, two offloads, two breakdown steals, and one try with Austin and Atlanta.

Davis has earned seven caps for Canada since making his international debut against the United States in February 2018. He also represented Canada at the 2017 World Rugby Under-20 Trophy in Uruguay.

The Albertan has also featured for Canada on the World Rugby Sevens Series, donning the red and white in two tournaments on the 2018-2019 circuit en route to scoring three tries over eight matches.

Prior to earning his first senior international cap, Davis spent two years developing in the Brumbies Academy, and later suited up for the Canberra, Australia-based Super Rugby side’s under-20 team. He played his grassroots rugby with his hometown Calgary Saints.

“Cole is a fast and powerful young winger who has worked hard to overcome some challenges in the last couple of years, and arrives with huge upside,” said Mark Winokur, Toronto Arrows Chief Operating Officer and General Manager. “We see him significantly contributing to our team in 2023. He comes with international experience for Canada and a very positive attitude, and we are very happy to bring him on board.”

The club will be making additional signing announcements in the coming weeks as 2023 season preparations continue to build.

The window to place a deposit to secure 2023 season memberships for the lowest possible price is now open. Earlybird pricing packages for the club’s home matches at York Lions Stadium start at just $70 for a limited time only.
