Tigres Claw Back for OT Win

Tigres Claw Back for OT Win

October 7, 2022 – Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)Halifax Mooseheads News Release

It was a disappointing result for the Halifax Mooseheads on Friday night at Scotiabank Centre where they coughed up a 3-1 third period lead in a 4-3 overtime loss to the visiting Victoriaville Tigres.

Maxime Pellerin buried his fourth goal of the season for the Tigres on a nice play that involved Tommy Cormier and Pier-Olivier Roy at the 3:02 mark of the extra period. Victoriaville turned the momentum very early in the third period when Cormier got the puck to trickle through the pads of goalie Brady James just 49 seconds into the frame. The visitors kept the pressure on by out-shooting the Herd 12-6 in the period and pulled even 3-3 on the scoreboard on a great effort by Loick Daigle who came hard out of the corner and ripped a shot by James at the 5:40 mark.

BOX SCORE

Halifax had built up a nice lead thanks to a pair of goals from the red-hot Markus Vidicek and another from defenceman Dylan MacKinnon. Vidicek has four goals and three assists in his first three games of the year while linemate Jordan Dumais assisted on both of his goals and is leading the Mooseheads in scoring with nine points on one goal and eight assists. The MacKinnon goal came as he stepped out of the penalty box and was sprung on a breakaway thanks to a long, head’s up pass by Cam Whynot. MacKinnon skated in and lit the lamp with a hard shot that beat goalie Nathan Darveau. It was only his second career goal and the first he has scored on Scotiabank Centre ice.

The power play continued to be a key to success for the Mooseheads, as the team went two-for-five on the man advantage. The unit remains the best in the QMJHL at 47.1 percent. The penalty kill also did its job by wasting all five of Victoriaville’s opportunities.

James made 31 saves in his first start of the season while Darveau grabbed the win by stopping 27 shots.

The loss drops Halifax’s record to 2-0-1-0 through three games as the Mooseheads quickly turn their attention to Charlottetown, where they will visit the Islanders Saturday night at 7pm. The next home game for the Herd is set for Thursday at 7pm versus the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
