Tiger-Cats Hills and Carney Named CFL Top Performers of the Week

The Canadian Football League announced Wednesday, that Hamilton Tiger-Cats running back Wes Hills (pictured above) and defensive lineman Malik Carney (pictured below) have been named two of the league’s top performers for week 18.


Hills, 27, posted career highs in carries (25), rushing yards (132) and receiving yards (26) in Hamilton’s 18-14 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders Friday night at Tim Hortons Field. The 6’1, 218-pound native of Wildwood, New Jersey’s strong second half helped Hamilton secure the victory, with 117 of his 158 scrimmage yards coming in the final two quarters. Hills’ 132 rushing yards is the most by any Tiger-Cats’ running back since Mercer Timmis (133) on June 22, 2018.

Carney, 27, registered four defensive tackles, one tackle for loss and a career-high three sacks in Hamilton’s victory on Friday. The 6’3, 245-pound native of Alexandria, Virginia capped off a seven-sack effort from the Ticats defence with his fourth quarter sack of Cody Fajardo. Carney became the first Tiger-Cat to register three sacks in a game since Dylan Wynn on August 24, 2019.

Winnipeg’s Dalton Schoen, first in voting, joins Hills (2nd) and Carney (3rd) to round out this week’s Top Performers. The three players were chosen by a panel of judges made up of Matt Dunigan and Marshall Ferguson of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS, who independently send their selections to the CFL league office.
