Storming Ahead: the 2022-2023 Schedule

KEARNEY, NE. – The defending Anderson Cup Champion Tri-City Storm will return to action this month to begin the twenty-third season in organizational history. The Storm captured the organization’s fifth Western Conference Regular Season Championship during the 2021-2022 season, and also won the United States Hockey League’s (USHL) Regular Season Championship for the third time in team history. Tri-City won several major league awards last season including USHL Coach of the Year, USHL Player of the Year, USHL Forward of the Year, USHL Defenseman of the Year, and USHL Goaltender of the Year. The Storm shattered multiple team and individual records during the 2021-2022 season, and is set to return to action in Kearney when the team hosts the Omaha Lancers on Friday, September 30th for its annual Home Opener at the Viaero Center. Season Tickets for the upcoming season are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Viaero Center Box Office at 308-338-8144. Single game tickets will go on sale Wednesday, September 7th at 10:00am CT.


Prior to the start of the 2022-2023 regular season, Tri-City will participate in five exhibition games during the 2022 USHL Preseason. The Storm will travel to the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, IA for the second consecutive season to begin preseason play. Tri-City will face the Waterloo Black Hawks on Thursday, September 8th at 7:00pm CT. The Storm will battle the Des Moines Buccaneers the following day at 1:00pm CT, and the team will close out the three-game series on Saturday, September 10th against the Fargo Force at 1:00pm CT. Tri-City will conclude exhibition play with road games against the Lincoln Stars on Tuesday, September 13th at 1:00pm CT, and against the Omaha Lancers at 7:00pm CT on Thursday, September 15th.

Tri-City’s regular season will open at the 2022 DICK’S Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania on Thursday, September 22nd at 7:30pm CT in a matchup against the defending Eastern Conference Champion Madison Capitols. The Capitols qualified for the Clark Cup Playoffs for the first time in organizational history last season, and advanced to the 2022 Clark Cup Final before eventually falling to the Sioux City Musketeers in the Championship Series. The Storm will face the Muskegon Lumberjacks at 4:30pm CT in the team’s second and final game in the event on Friday, September 23rd. The Lumberjacks advanced to the 2022 Eastern Conference Final and fell to the Madison Capitols. Each of Tri-City’s opening two games of the regular season will be played on FedEx Rink 1 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. Tickets to the Fall Classic will be available for purchase at the arena on the days of the event.

The Storm will travel to Frisco, Texas for two matchups against the Fargo Force on January 26th, and January 27th, 2023, for the third edition of the USHL’s Frosty Cup hosted by the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL). Last season, the Storm posted a two-game sweep of the Lincoln Stars in the event. Each of the Storm’s games against the Force in this year’s event will be played at the Comerica Center, the official training facility of the Dallas Stars. Puck drop for each game is set for 7:05pm CT.

With four neutral site games of the 2022-2023 regular season schedule (Fall Classic & Frosty Cup), Tri-City will play twenty-nine home games at the Viaero Center this season. The Storm finished the 2021-2022 regular season with a home record of 27-3-0-1, the best single-season home record in organizational history. The Home Opener for the 2022-2023 regular season will feature a rematch of last season’s Western Conference Semifinal Round matchup between the Tri-City Storm and in-state rival Omaha Lancers. The game is scheduled for Friday, September 30th. Puck drop for the rivalry matchup is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
