Panthers Sign Center Shawn Lockett

October 31, 2022 – Indoor Football League (IFL)Bay Area Panthers News Release

The Panthers have fortified the offensive line with the signing of Shawn Lockett, changing his mind about retirement to continue playing on the West Coast.

Lockett was set to move on from the game after the 2022 season with the Massachusetts Pirates.

“I just wanted to give a little more effort to this game,” said Lockett. “Ending my first campaign in the IFL with a first-round loss left a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted to do it again with a team that has a real chance to win the championship.”

Before his stint with the Pirates, Lockett won an ArenaBowl with the Albany Empire, playing for Rob Keefe (now the Panthers Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator). He spent a total of three seasons with the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks and was named 1st Team All-NAL. Lockett also played for the Philadelphia Soul of the AFL.

“We want to add value to our team with quality people and quality leadership,” said Keefe. “He combines that with championship play experience.”

Lockett said the history with Keefe played a major role in signing with the Panthers.

“Just knowing how Coach Keefe is and what he brings to the game made a difference,” said Lockett. “He’s a player’s coach and wants the best for his guys. I learned lot about everything from him-how to be a pro on the field and off. “

Lockett attended American International College in his hometown of Springfield, Massachusettts.
