Lancers Silence Dubuque to End Pittsburgh Road Trip

September 25, 2022 – United States Hockey League (USHL)Omaha Lancers News Release

CRANBERRY TWP., PA. – Just like last season, the Lancers played game two of the Fall Classic against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. And with last years’ matchup ending in a 3-2 victory for Dubuque, the Lancers were looking to flip the script and come out on top to gather three of the available four points this weekend after falling to Team USA 3-2 in overtime last night (9/24).

The first period was controlled by the Fighting Saints, spending well over half of the period in their attacking end. But just like last night, Lancers’ netminder, Michael Hrabal stopped 11 shots to send the game into the first intermission locked at zero.

The Lancers could not match the offensive intensity of Dubuque as they only managed to put up three first period shots on Fighting Saints goaltender, Marcus Brännman.

The Lancers managed to bounce back in the second period as they outshot Dubuque 10-4 in the 20-minute stretch. And in result of that, found the back of the net first.

Nate Benoit found Ryan Kusler heading into the attacking zone who swiftly sauced the puck to Braydon Beahm who beat Brännman over the glove to send the Lancers into the second intermission with a 1-0 lead.

The final period brought more offensive power for Omaha, netting two goals late in the period to carry out a 3-0 shutout victory.

After an offsides call didn’t go the Lancers’ way, Marcus Broberg cleared the puck out and found Alex Bump heading into the attacking end, in which a 2-on-0 ensued with Tanner Rowe by his side. After looking for the pass, Bump elected to go short-side, top shelf over the glove of Brännman, to stretch the Lancers’ lead to two goals with under four minutes to go.

Just two minutes later, Griffin Jurecki finished things off with an empty netter after a missed shot from Matt Romer, capping off the 3-0 win for Omaha.

Michael Hrabal had himself a night once again stopping 27 shots in his first United States Hockey League shutout. Giving him a 1-0-1-0 record with a 1.49 goals against average, and a 0.959 save percentage through two games.

The Lancers are set to be back in action on Friday, September 30th at Tri-City for a 7:05PM CST puck drop with the Storm. That game can be caught on FloSports and Mixlr.
