Jordan Dumais’ 2 Goals Leads Moose Over Isles

October 20, 2022 – Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)Halifax Mooseheads News Release

Jordan Dumais continued his torrid start to the season by scoring twice in the latest Mooseheads victory, as the Herd downed the Islanders 4-1 in Charlottetown on Thursday night.

The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect has a team-leading 16 points and Halifax won for the fifth time in seven games, improving to a Maritimes Division best 5-1-1-0. Attilio Biasca and Logan Crosby also scored in the victory while Mathis Rousseau made 17 saves to earn the win between the pipes.

Charlottetown opened the scoring in the first period when Lucas Romeo took advantage of a turnover by Moose defenceman Jake Furlong in his own end. Romeo, an Ontario free agent addition in the offseason, quickly snapped a shot that beat Rousseau at the 12:39 mark. Halifax responded about five minutes later on a great hand-eye coordination play by Captain Attilio Biasca. The Swiss import corralled a bouncing puck and brought it back to his forehand to fire it into a gaping net with goalie Franky Lapenna unable to recover after making an initial save on the play. James Swan and Stephane Huard Jr grabbed the helpers on the goal was the fifth of the season for Biasca, who is quickly closing in on his career-high of 14 points set last season. He is at 11 points now through seven games.

The Mooseheads took the lead for the first time when Biasca was part of a pretty passing play that started with Markus Vidicek and finished with Dumais burying his shot on the power play at 15:38 of the middle period. Dumais netted his second of the night less than three minutes later with Mathieu Cataford picking up the lone assist. Logan Crosby sealed the win with an empty net goal in the closing minutes of regulation. Jake Furlong was credited with an assist on the Crosby tally.

Halifax was incredibly disciplined in the game and did not give the Islanders a power play opportunity. The only penalty taken by the Herd was Jake Todd’s minor for roughing in the third period which was an offsetting call following unsportsmanlike conduct from Charlottetown’s Jack Campbell.

There was a scary moment for Halifax star Markus Vidicek who was tripped up on a speedy drive to the net and crashed hard into the goal post late in the game. Vidicek stayed down on the ice for a couple of minutes before skating off on his own and heading straight down the tunnel to the dressing room. He was being reassessed for an upper body injury following the game. The Mooseheads are already dealing with a trio of injuries including an upper body injury to forward Evan Boucher who was knocked out of last weekend’s game in Moncton. He is expected to miss several games and is listed as out indefinitely. Zach L’Heureux also remains out indefinitely with an upper body injury with a timeline to return of approximately five-to-six weeks. Rookie defenceman Jack Martin is week-to-week with an upper body injury.

Next up for your Mooseheads is a pair of home games this weekend at Scotiabank Centre on Saturday and Sunday. Halifax will host the long-time rival Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Saturday night at 7pm before entertaining the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
