The Lancaster Barnstormers tied a season high with five home runs, all solo, while Cameron Gann and a pair of relievers combined on a two-hit shutout as Lancaster blanked Southern Maryland, 9-0, in the middle game of a three-game series.


With the win, the Barnstormers (43-21) clinched the best overall record for the league in the second half, locking out South champion Gastonia for the honor.

Gann (9-8) yielded a double to Santiago Chirino in the second and a single to Michael Wielansky in the fifth over his five innings of work. The right-hander walked four and struck out seven. On his third strikeout of the game, a called third strike on Ian Yetsko in the second, the Texan set a new single season club mark, topping John Anderson’s 140 strikeouts in 2019.

Donald Goodson and West Tunnell struck out seven of the 12 batters they faced over the final four innings to complete the whitewash.

Shawon Dunston, Jr, led off his third straight game with a home run to greet Eddie Butler (12-6). Melvin Mercedes, Andretty Cordero, and Trayvon Robinson followed with singles to load the bases. Anderson Feliz drilled a double into the left field corner to drive home two as the Barnstormers collected a 3-0 lead. Jacob Barfield produced the sixth straight hit, a single to center, to produce the fourth run.

Walks to Chris Proctor and Dunston forced home one more.

The rest of Lancaster’s night was built on the long ball. Dunston cleared the tents in right with one out in the fourth. Robinson led off the fifth with a line drive homer onto the deck for a 7-0 lead. Andretty Cordero cranked his 17th of the season, a blast to left field, to start the seventh, and Joseph Carpenter picked up his first pro homer with a deep fly to right in the eighth.

Lancaster finished the night with 15 overall hits in winning for the 17th time in the last 23 games.

The 2022 regular season will come to an end on Sunday afternoon at 1:00. Dominic DiSabatino (6-5) will make the start for the Barnstormers against lefty Alsis Herrera (1-4). The full team will sign autographs on the field from 12:00-12:25. Fans may tune into the YouTube Channel, starting at 12:55.

NOTES: Cordero has reached 182 hits and 117 RBI…Dunston is 8-for-13 with four homers since coming off the injured list…Barnstormers pitchers have struck out 1142 batters in 1127 innings on the year…They have allowed only 985 hits…The Barnstormers also hit five home runs at York on June 21…Lancaster clinched the best record in the league in the second half, locking out Gastonia for the honor and also clinched the third best overall record for the season…With a win on Sunday, the Barnstormers will have the best half in the 17-season history of the franchise.
