Attack Take Season Opener 5-3 over Knights

September 30, 2022 – Ontario Hockey League (OHL)Owen Sound Attack News Release

Ten Attack players registered points in the Attacks 2022-23 season opening 5-3 win over the London Knights on Friday night with Gavin Bryant leading the way with two goals on the evening.

The Attack opened the period by continuing their strong play from the pre-season applying pressure with a solid forecheck and relentless pursuit of the puck. The Attacks best chance of the first period came shortly after newly acquired Teddy Sawyer took a two minute minor. Colby Barlow picked the pocket of the London defender at the blue line and headed in all alone, unfortunately a great shot trickled through Knights net minder Brett Brooch just past the post. Oliver Bonk would get the Knights on the board midway through the first period when he and rookie defenceman Sam Dickson were able to capitalize on a 2-on-1 break while the teams played 4-0n-4. The period ended with the Knights up 1-0.

The bears came out firing in the second period, continuing the pressure that provided them some great opportunities in the first period. Just six minutes into the period Gavin Bryant used the boards to push the puck by the Knights defender and cut to the net beating Brochu on the far post. Four minutes later Cedrick Guindon went wide then cut to the Knights net behind the goal line and slid a pass out to Kaleb Lawrence in the slot who made no mistake making it 2-1. The Attack would make it 3-1 as a Ethan Burroughs shot bounced off of Thomas Chafe and into the back of the net just 3 minutes later. The Attack continued their impressive play outshooting the Knights 15-1 in the second period.

As expected the London Knights came out in the third period with some push back pinning the Attack in their own end for much of the first two minutes of the period. During this time overage goaltender Nick Chenard made some key saves to keep the score at 3-1. Shortly after Bryant would tally his second of the game when Ethan Burroughs slid the puck over to Bryant at the blue line sending him in off the wing, with a quick shot Bryant extended the Attacks lead to 4-1. The Knights would get back within two, just before the TV timeout with a power play marker from Bryce Montgomery. After some back and forth play over the next seven minutes and no change in the score the Knights elected to pull Brochu for the extra attacker. Fortunately for the Attack, they were able to defend their end until Colby Barlow was able to pick off a pass up by the blue line and fire down the ice into the open net to restore the Attacks three goal lead 5-2. The Knights would add another goal late off the stick of Ethan Cowan to make it 5-3, but the Attack shut it down from there, wining the opening game of the 2022-23 season.

Scoring Summary: Bryant (2G), Brennan (2A) Burroughs (2A), Lawrence (1G), Chafe (1G), Barlow (1G), Steen (1A), Seed (1A), Guindon (1A), Uens (1A), Chenard (20 saves).

The MacVicar & McComb Sutton Realty Attack box office will open at 10am on Saturday, tickets can also be purchased online or by calling 519.371.7452.
