Rock Select 8 at NLL Draft

September 10, 2022 – National Lacrosse League (NLL)Toronto Rock News Release

Toronto, ON – The Toronto Rock made eight selections at the 2022 NLL Draft on Saturday afternoon at The Carlu in Downtown Toronto on Saturday afternoon.

With no first-round selections, the Rock were busy in the second round making four picks.

The Rock used their first pick in the draft, 28th overall in the second round, to select forward Josh Dawick from the Whitby Jr. A Warriors and the University of Denver. This pick hits close to home as Josh is the son of Rock Owner Jamie Dawick. The offensive righty returned from a knee injury he suffered in the summer of 2021 while playing Jr. A for the Warriors and played for the Oakville Rock of Ontario Series lacrosse in 2022. Dawick brings a strong lacrosse IQ and truly is a pure goal scorer.

With their next second round pick, 35th overall, the Rock selected forward Tyler Hendrycks from Peterborough Jr. A Lakers and High Point University. The lefty forward is a big physical presence with soft hands for a big man. He opted to renounce his remaining NCAA eligibility and enter this year’s draft.

Up next, the Rock went with Brian Cameron from Rutgers University with the 36th overall selection. The 6-foot-3 lefty attackman scored 34 goals and added 10 assists in 18 games with the Scarlet Knights in 2022. Prior to his time at Rutgers, he played three years at North Carolina. Cameron will be attending Rutgers again this fall and will not be available to play in the NLL until the completion of his 2023 collegiate season.

At 41st overall, the Rock addressed a positional need by selecting goaltender Sam Haines from the Oakville Jr. A Buzz. Widely regarded as one of the top goaltenders in Ontario throughout his minor lacrosse career with Halton Hills, he moved on to star for his hometown Jr. B Bulldogs before making the jump to Jr. A with the Buzz where he found himself in a tandem role with Vancouver’s Aden Walsh. Haines has the potential to be one of the steals of the draft.

In the third round, 56th overall, the Rock selected forward Tucker Dordevic from Syracuse University. The 6-foot natural right-handed shooter has transferred to Georgetown University for his final year of NCAA eligibility, and like Cameron, will not be available to play in the NLL until after the 2023 collegiate season has completed. The 23-year-old native of Portland, Oregon grew up an NLL fan cheering for his hometown Lumberjax and spent some time as their ball boy back in the 2000s.

Moving on to round four, with the 71st overall pick, the Rock selected forward Marley Angus from the Oakville Jr. A Buzz and RIT. Angus is a shifty forward with a motor that never stops. His work ethic helps him earn the offensive chances he gets.

In round five, 87th overall, the Rock selected attackman Brendan Nichtern from Army West Point. In his final year, he scored 40 goals and added 61 assists for 101 points. Since the end of his collegiate career, he has gone on to star in the PLL with Chrome LC and was recently named the league’s Rookie of the Year.

With their final selection, in the sixth round, 102nd overall, the Rock selected defender Brett Makar from the University of Maryland.

Toronto Rock training camp will begin on Saturday, November 5 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville. The Rock will play three exhibition games at the TRAC in November with dates and opponents to be announced in the coming weeks.
