Seals Select Six in 2022 NLL Entry Draft
September 10, 2022 – National Lacrosse League (NLL) – San Diego Seals News Release
TORONTO, ON – The San Diego Seals selected six players, including two San Diego Royals champions, on Saturday afternoon in the 2022 NLL Entry Draft.
“We’re pleased with our 2022 NLL draft class,” said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “We’ve addressed needs at every position and are expecting a lot out of these young guys.”
It was a family affair as left-handed forward Jake Govett, son of team president Steve Govett, was the first player to hear his name called by San Diego in the draft. Govett played college lacrosse at the University of Delaware and was a star player on the NCBS San Diego Royals for the past two summers. The lefty helped lead the Royals to back-to-back National Championships in 2020 and 2021.
San Diego then selected a trio of second rounders after a pair of trades. The Seals sent defenseman Devyn Mayea to the Buffalo Bandits in exchange for the 31st overall pick and a 2024 third-round draft selection. With the pick, San Diego selected defenseman Cameron Lumb from the Victoria Shamrocks. The team then went with the hometown standout in defenseman Payton Rezanka (second round, 34th overall selection). The Cathedral Catholic alum is an All-American at Loyola University and was a member of the two-time national champion Royals squad. Forward Adam Noakes from Coquitlam rounded out the Seals second-round selections.
San Diego added depth when the team selected transition players Chris Dong and Mike Sisselberger. Below is the complete draft list:
Round Overall Name Position College/Club
1 22 Jake Govett F Delaware
2 31 Cameron Lumb D Victoria
2 34 Payton Rezanka D Loyola
2 39 Adam Noakes F Coquitlam
4 69 Chris Dong T Oakville
6 100 Mike Sisselberger T Lehigh
