Spirit Come Back, Score Three Unanswered To Win Against Frontenacs

Saginaw, Mich. – The Saginaw Spirit (8-5-1-0) defeated the Kingston Frontenacs (7-5-0-1) with a final score of 3-2 at the Dow Event Center in Riverfront Saginaw, Michigan.
Brayden Hislop and T-Bone Codd scored their first goals of the season and helped the Spirit overcome a two-goal deficit late in the third period. This is the third win in a row for Saginaw.
The game began with Saginaw on the power play just 22 seconds into the first period after Kingston committed a tripping penalty. The Spirit were unable to convert on the chance.
Roberto Mancini had a scoring opportunity six minutes in when he shot to the right of Mason Vaccari, but was stopped by the goaltender.
The Frontenacs got a chance to use their powerplay after Josh Bloom took an interference penalty at 12:53 in the opening period. Kingston failed to score on the chance.
The Spirit got a two-man advantage after Ben Roger and Quinton Burns took holding penalties at 16:32 and 17:37 in the first frame. Despite several shots from Saginaw, they were unable to score on both chances.
The first period ended with both teams scoreless, with Saginaw leading in shots, 9-7.
The second period started with Andrew Oke making back-to-back saves two minutes in.
Kingston struck first at 2:54 in the middle period. Paul Hughes scored his third of the season after Owen Outwater shot the puck at Oke for a rebound. Ben Roger setup the play by passing to Outwater.
Olivier Savard made a diving stop nine minutes into the second period to stop a Frontenacs breakaway.
Roberto Mancini received a holding penalty at 10:27 in the middle period, giving the Frontenacs another chance on the man-advantage. The Spirit successfully killed the penalty, and Josh Bloom had a breakaway chance but was stopped by Vaccari.
Saginaw got to use their powerplay again after Owen Outwater took a holding penalty at 17:51 in the middle period. The Spirit did not score on the chance.
The second period ended with Kingston leading the game 1-0 and shots, 20-14.
The third period opened with the Frontenacs scoring a shorthanded goal at 1:09. Breakaway, split several players to score on the backhand.
The Spirit got a man-advantage after Adam Cavallin took a slashing penalty at 1:41.
Andrew Oke started the game for Saginaw, making 23 saves on 25 shots. Mason Vaccari got the start for Kingston, making 21 saves on 24 shots.
Kingston took a cross checking penalty at 7:44 in the final period but Saginaw took a tripping penalty at 9:13 to create a four-on-four chance for both teams. Neither team scored on the chance.
Both teams had another four-on-four chance after Maddox Callens and Roberto Mancini took matching roughing penalties at 11:40 in the final frame. Neither team was able to score.
Saginaw scored their first of the game at 15:16 in the final period. Dean Loukus passed from the left side of the zone to the right where Brayden Hislop was waiting for his first of the season.
The Spirit tied the game at two with a short-side goal at 17:52 in the final period. Anaheim Ducks prospect Pavel Mintyukov scored after Calem Mangone gifted him the puck from behind the net. Matyas Sapovaliv got his 10th assist of the season after he gave the puck to Mangone.
Saginaw rallied back and took the lead for the first time in the game at 18:33 in the final frame. T-Bone Codd got his first goal of the season after Pavel Mintyukov passed to him from the left side of the net. Theo Hill earned his second assist by passing to Mintyukov.
With 1:11 left in the final period, Kingston pulled their goalie to get an extra attacker. Neither team scored, and the game ended in a 3-2 Saginaw victory. The Spirit improve to 8-5-1-0 on the season.
Saginaw takes to the road in their next game as they take on the Kitchener Rangers Friday, November 4, at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in Kitchener, Ontario. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, November 12th is Saginaw’s Military Appreciation night presented by Bay City Elks #88. Veterans and active military can receive two upper-level tickets and the Spirit will be wearing military-themed jerseys for the game. The team will be auctioning off the jerseys after the game, and proceeds will go to the Bay City Elks #88 Veterans Program.
