Head-to-Head:

Kitchener comes into tonight’s matchup with Sudbury owning a 5-2-1-2 record against the wolves over their last 10 meetings. Since the 2015-16 regular season, Kitchener has not lost in regulation at The Aud against the wolves posting a 3-0-1-1 record. In those five games, the Blueshirts are outscoring the Wolves 28-13 for an average goals per game of 5.6-2.6. The Rangers are more than doubling their opponents on the score sheet at home over the past 5 seasons. Since last year’s schedule only consisted of same-conference opponents, this will be Sudbury’s first trip to The Aud since October 14th, 2019. Kitchener came away with a 7-3 victory in that game with captain Francesco Pinelli (Los Angeles Kings) recording two assists.

Scouting the Rangers:

There’s no hiding it tonight as everyone will have their eye on the Montréal Canadiens first round draft pick, Filip Mešár, making his Kitchener Rangers debut at The Aud. Filip played just one game with the Laval Rockets, the AHL affiliate of the Montréal Canadiens, but had an impressive preseason with the pro club. He will be on a line centered by Francesco Pinelli (Los Angeles Kings) and Carson Rehkopf on the other wing.

Defenceman Hunter Brzustewicz now leads the Ranger in points with 7 (0G, 7A) thanks to a three-assist effort in Kitchener’s last game. Carson Rehkopf has the team lead in goals with 4 after recording a hat-trick in the same game. Goaltender Marco Costantini has been solid since his move from Hamilton to Kitchener. In his two appearances with the East Avenue Blue, Marco has a 2.55 goals against average and 0.932 save percentage.

Tomas Hamara (Ottawa Senators), Filip Mešár (Montréal Canadiens), Francesco Pinelli (Los Angeles Kings) and Roman Schmidt (Tampa Bay Lightning) are four Kitchener skaters that are both drafted and signed by their NHL clubs respectively.

Scouting the Wolves:

Forward David Goyette (Seattle Kraken) returns to Sudbury for his second season after leading the club as a rookie with 73 points (33G, 40A) in 66 games played. David is also off to a hot start with 12 points (6G, 6A) in 7 games so far this season. Former 1st overall pick in the 2021 OHL entry draft, Quentin Musty, returns for his second season after posting a respectable 31 points (12G, 19A) in 50 games last season. Quentin is leading the Wolves with 27 shots on goal and is eligible for the 2023 NHL entry draft.

Jack Holmes (Dallas Stars) led the way last season for the Wolves on defence posting 34 points (7G 27A) in 63 games.

Nolan Collins (Pittsburgh Penguins), Jacob Holmes (Dallas Stars), David Goyette (Seattle Kraken) are three Wolves skaters that are drafted by their NHL clubs respectively.

Broadcast Coverage:

Friday night’s game will be televised live throughout Kitchener and the Waterloo Region on Rogers TV, cable channel 20, and can be watched across the province of Ontario on the Super Sports Pak on channel 471 for cable subscribers. The game will be streamed live online on OHL Live on CHL TV. Additionally, fans can listen to the game on the radio on CityNews 570 AM CKGL. Dominic Hennig will be filling in for Mike Farwell on play-by-play and Chris Pope will provide colour commentary.

Next up:

The Kitchener Rangers are heading to Guelph to play the first game of a home-and-home series with the Guelph Storm. Tuesday night’s game is set for 7 p.m. at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph, Ontario.
