Minot, ND – The Minotauros are proud to announce that goaltender Lawton Zacher has committed to play NCAA DI hockey at Brown University. The Buffalo, NY, native becomes the first Tauro to commit to Brown and the 90th NCAA DI commitment in program history.
Zacher is currently playing his first season as a Tauro posting a 6-1-0 record over seven starts his .947 Save Percentage leads all rookies and is fourth overall. He also ranks sixth overall with a 1.57 GAA which improves to second among the 17 goaltenders who have seen at least 200 shots this year. In his most recent start Zacher posted a 26 save shutout of the North Iowa Bulls.
The goaltender said he is excited to commit to Brown because “it’s an Ivy League school and historically one of the top schools in the country.” Once on campus Zacher intends to study business and marketing and was drawn to the support the program offers players as both students and athletes adding, “what I like the most about Brown’s program is the effort they have been putting in to help their players succeed on and off the ice.”
Tauros Head Coach and General Manager Cody Campbell sited Zacher’s work ethic in praising the latest Tauro commit; “we are thrilled for Lawton. He has been rock solid for us all season thus far. His demeanor and competitiveness impress us everyday and those traits also have spread throughout our locker room. We look forward to continuing to help Lawton prepare to head to Brown and make an impact immediately.”
Despite having been in Minot for just a couple of months Zacher believes his time in the Magic City was integral in taking this next step in his career; “being a Tauro has helped me make my commitment by practicing hard to make each-other better. Our team is very strong defensively and that has helped me get my feet underneath me in the league.”
Aside from his time as a Tauro Zacher also acknowledged that he has had a lot of help along the way, “I would like to thank God most importantly for all the blessings he has given me and my family. I would like to thank my family and the coaches that have helped me along the way.”
See Zacher and the rest of the Tauros take the ice on the Pepsi Rink at Maysa Arena this weekend against the Aberdeen Wings Friday and Saturday nights at 7:35 p.m. Saturday night is the Minotauros Booster Club’s Annual Trunk-or-Treat tailgate party. Tickets for both games are available here or by clicking the “Tickets” tab atop this page.
