Storylines:
– Last week, the Winterhawks named Gabe Klassen as team captain for the 2022-23 season. He is the 48th captain
in team history, taking over for last year’s co-captain Tyson Kozak and Clay Hanus who are now playing
professional hockey. Robbie Fromm-Delorme, Jack O’Brien and Kyle Chyzowski were named alternate captains.
– Gabe Klassen, 19, has scored in all four games he’s played in this season and is currently tied for fourth in league
scoring with eight goals.
– The Winterhawks started the season 7-0 for the first time since the 1982-83 season (started 9-0 that year and
went on to win the Memorial Cup Championship), but dropped their first game of the year Saturday in
Kennewick, Wash.
– NHL Central Scouting ‘Players to Watch’ List will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 25 and a handful of Winterhawks
have an opportunity to be recognized on the list assembled by NHL executives.
– Josh Zakreski (3G-3A) and Carter Sotheran (6A) are tied for 7th in WHL rookie scoring with six points each.
– Luca Cagnoni ranks eighth among WHL defensemen with eight points (3G-5A).
– Eleven Winterhawks alumni were named on NHL Opening Night rosters.
– Seven Winterhawks eligible to play in Portland this season participated at NHL Rookie Camps last month.
– Kyle Gustafson has returned to the team’s staff as an associate coach after one year with the Vancouver Canucks.
