Week 20 Game Day at a Glance

October 21, 2022 – Canadian Football League (CFL)Saskatchewan Roughriders News Release

Saturday, October 22 – 13th Fan Appreciation Game presented by Capital Auto Mall

There’s no place like home! After a full month away from beautiful Mosaic Stadium, the Roughriders are back for the final home game of the season against the rival Calgary Stampeders. For our finale, we have a loaded slate of events before, during, and after the game to show our appreciation to the best fans in the CFL! This game is all about Rider Nation and what better time for us to announce the winner of the 2022 13th Fan Award. This incredible honour will be presented at the end of the first quarter by last year’s winners, Ron and Connie! Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with kickoff set for 5:00 p.m.

However, the day will start on a more somber and reflective note, with a special ceremony. For the last several weeks, the Club has been working with the leadership of the James Smith Cree Nation as they heal from an unimaginable tragedy. As part of our commitment to aid in the healing, the Club is honoured to have members of the community to join us for the game and will be presenting some of the Chiefs from James Smith Cree Nation with an orange jersey prior to kick off as a symbol of our support.

Get your receiver gloves ready and your eyes peeled during Bring Em Out’, as the team will be tossing autographed footballs into the stands! It’s one of many in-game giveaways that also include Riders water bottles, bottle openers, and Coors Light/Pilsner swag!

At halftime, the always exciting Capital Auto Mall Pick 6 Giveaway returns! One lucky fan out of 13 participants will go home with a brand-new car. The winner will choose one of six brand-new vehicles to take home! Twelve of the 13 participants have already been chosen – but one will be plucked right from the stands, just for attending the game!

Don’t forget to swing by the Mosaic Stadium Rider Store for some new game day swag! Show your Fan Appreciation game ticket at the till for a special 25% OFF regular priced Rider merchandise! Get some early Christmas shopping completed or get that bunny hug you’ve been eyeing. It’s just another way we want to say, “Thank you for being here.”

For the final time this season, fans will be allowed on the field following the game! Select players will also be down on the field for an autograph session! Take advantage of this amazing opportunity to create memories and meet your favourite Roughriders. Head down to the field through Pil Country on the south side. The north side stairs to section 123 will act as the exit.

And don’t forget to get your pink toque, available at the Rider Store, Riderstore.ca and at each Entrance Gate prior to kickoff (while supplies last). All proceeds go to granting the dreams of our 2022 Cameco Riders Touchdown for Dreams program recipients. They can also be purchased from our online store.

Arrive early because the last Coors Light Party in the Park of the season is going out with a bang! Unique activities highlight the best of autumn football with a watermelon carving contest, a chilli cook off, and a hay bale maze for kids. The fully licensed event will also have coffee and hot chocolate in case you need to warm up!

Gates for Coors Light Party in the Park opens at 2:00 p.m. and will also have inflatables, games, face painting, a balloon artist, appearances from the 620 CKRM Pep Band, the Coors Light Stage with DJ Tolley T and so much more!

Week 20

Quarterback Mason Fine will be making his first career CFL start on Saturday. He has made four appearances this season, completing 28 of 48 passes for 326 yards, two touchdowns, while adding four carries for 20 yards. In college at North Texas, Fine completed 1,039 passes for 12,505 yards, 93 touchdowns and just 39 interceptions over his career and is ranked 28th all-time in passing yards in college football history.

The linebacker duo of Darnell Sankey and Larry Dean have continued their standout seasons, ranking first and third in the league, respectively, in both defensive tackles and total tackles through 16 games. Sankey has recorded 104 defensive tackles to become the first CFL player since 2018 to eclipse the century mark while Dean needs eight more to join him. Keep an eye out for them to become the first teammates since 2016 to record 100+ tackle seasons. Additionally, Sankey is 15 tackles short of breaking David Albright’s record of 118 tackles, the most in a single season from a Roughrider player.

In just his second season in the CFL, wide receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker leads the team in receiving yards and touchdown receptions with 874 yards and five majors. With those numbers, Schaffer-Baker has the second-most receiving yards of all Canadian receivers. Be sure to be here as he continues his quest to his first 1,000 yard season.
