Tri-City Set to Begin Preseason Schedule

SIOUX CITY, IA. – The Tri-City Storm is set to open preseason play tonight at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa in a matchup against the Waterloo Black Hawks. Tonight’s game is the first exhibition game of the Storm’s five-game preseason schedule. Tomorrow, Tri-City will battle the Des Moines Buccaneers at 1:00pm CT at the Tyson Events Center. The Storm will conclude play in this week’s USHL West Preseason Showcase on Saturday at 1:00pm CT in a battle against the Fargo Force. Puck drop for tonight’s exhibition game against the Black Hawks is set for 7:00pm CT.


The opening game of the Storm’s exhibition schedule will be part of a USHL West Preseason Showcase hosted by the Sioux City Musketeers. The event will feature multiple teams from the USHL’s Western Conference. The Storm and the Omaha Lancers will each play three games in the event. The Des Moines Buccaneers, Fargo Force, Sioux City Musketeers, Sioux Falls Stampede, and Waterloo Black Hawks, will each play two games during the showcase. This is the Storm’s second consecutive year competing in the event.

Tri-City (0-0-0-0) completed the 2021 preseason schedule with a final record of 2-3-0-0. The Storm ended the 2021-2022 regular season with a final record of 47-11-3-1. Tri-City won a second consecutive Western Conference Regular Season Championship and the third Anderson Cup Championship in organizational history. The Storm fell in the Conference Final Round of the 2022 Clark Cup Playoffs to the eventual postseason Champions, the Sioux City Musketeers. The Storm posted a 5-1-0-0 record in six head-to-head matchups against the Black Hawks last season.

Waterloo (0-0-0-0) opens preseason play tonight against the Storm after posting a final regular season record last year of 28-30-3-1. The Black Hawks captured the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, and the team eliminated the Lincoln Stars in the opening round of the postseason. The Black Hawks fell to the Sioux City Musketeers in the Conference Semifinal Round of the playoffs. Waterloo will face the Fargo Force tomorrow afternoon in the team’s second and final game in the preseason event. The Black Hawks will play three additional exhibition games following the USHL West Preseason Showcase to complete play in the exhibition schedule.
