Tormenta FC, Richmond Draw in Thrilling First Match at Tormenta Stadium

STATESBORO, Ga. – In its 100th game in USL League One and first-ever game at Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium, South Tormenta FC earned a 1-1 tie against the Richmond Kickers. Fuad Adeniyi scored Tormenta FC’s only goal of the night following a corner kick nearing the end of the first half.
HIGHLIGHTS
South Georgia was able to debut at Tormenta Stadium in front of 2,000 fans following a postponed Saturday match due to inclement weather across the region. Throughout the game, South Georgia was able to be the better team and outshot the Kickers eight to three, having the better opportunities throughout the game.
A set piece saw Tormenta FC score its first goal at Tormenta Stadium after a corner kick rebounded and was placed back into the penalty box finding Adeniyi, who simply switched the trajectory of the ball towards the net. With this goal, Adeniyi has scored his first professional goal of his career.
Richmond was able to get the equalizer in the 91st minute of the match following a free kick placed into the penalty box, finding the back of the net.
Tonight’s Player of the Match, presented by Galactic Comics and Games, is Owen Green. Green continues to prove why he’s earned the starting position for South Georgia this season. A consistent offensive and defensive presence throughout the game has allowed him to use his speed to beat the opposing team forwards to the ball, limiting crucial players to null opportunities.
Following its fixture against Richmond, Tormenta FC travels to Omaha to take on reigning USL League One winner Union Omaha on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. ET.
