Top Line Produces in Road Win vs Titan

October 5, 2022 – Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)Halifax Mooseheads News Release

Your Halifax Mooseheads are 2-and-0 to start the season after a 6-4 road win on Wednesday night in Acadie-Bathurst.

The power play was huge by cashing in on 4-of-6 chances and the top line of Mathieu Cataford, Markus Vidicek and Jordan Dumais combined for 11 points in the win to pace the attack. Cataford tallied his first career hat trick while Vidicek and Dumais each ended up with a goal and three assists in a fairly wide-open contest at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.

With the Herd leading 2-1 through 40 minutes on a pair of Cataford goals, things got wild in the final period with Halifax and Bathurst scoring seven times as goalies Mathis Rousseau and Jan Bednar had their hands full. Cataford completed his hat trick on the power play early in the third period followed by another goal on the man advantage from Dumais to increase the Mooseheads’ lead to 4-1. The Titan then started to chip away with Blake Pilgrim-Edwards and Ben Allison cutting the deficit to just one for the home squad. The newest member of the Mooseheads roster gave his team some insurance a little more than two minutes after the Allison goal. Stephane Huard Jr, acquired in a trade on Friday, scored in his Halifax debut as he slid a shot under the pads of Bednar to make it a 5-3 game. That goal also came on the power play. Vidicek added another for good measure at the 16:29 mark and Dylan Andrews got one more for the Titan before time expired. Montreal Canadiens prospect Riley Kidney had the other goal for Acadie-Bathurst.

The Herd played with 11 forwards and seven defencemen after making Jake Todd the final healthy scratch after warmup. Captain Attilio Biasca had an excellent game with three assists while Cam Whynot and Jake Furlong also picked up helpers. Final shots were 42-27 in favour of Halifax. The Mooseheads were given an Honourable Mention earlier in the day when the CHL released its latest Top 10 Rankings.

The next game for the Moose is set for Friday night at Scotiabank Centre versus Victoriaville at 7pm. The first 3,000 fans will receive free fridge magnet schedules. Tickets are on sale now at TicketAtlantic.com.
