Titans Fall to Rebels 2-1 in Preseason SO
September 4, 2022 – North American Hockey League (NAHL) – New Jersey Titans News Release
The Titans fell to the visiting Philadelphia Rebels yesterday 2 – 1 in a shootout in the Red Buckets lone preseason game this season.
After a scoreless 40 minutes, the Titans opened the scoring with 6:20 into the third period. After New Jersey dumped the puck into Philadelphia’s zone, the Rebels Isaac Barrett set up the play behind his own net and started to skate towards the left of goaltender Jack Fialkoff. As Barrett reached the near side faceoff circle hash marks, he went to make an outlet pass towards the top of his own farside point but it was intercepted by Ben Muthersbaugh in the slot, and the Gillford, NH native took a wrist shot that beat Fialkoff high glove side to make it a 1 – 0 game.
Four minutes later the Rebels Max Marquette knotted the game at one. As the Titans went to dump the puck into the offensive zone, it was gloved down by Philadelphia’s Sonny Dinubile at the top of his own blueline and he passed it up to Oliver Band at center ice. As Band gained the line, he was brought down by a Titans defender prompting a delayed penalty. As Band was falling, he passed the puck to Evan West on his left. West took a shot that went off the mask of Titans goalie Zak Brice and the rebound came out to Marquette who buried the puck into the empty net.
After regulation and a five-minute overtime ended tied at one, it went to a shootout when Philadelphia’s Greg Spitznagel scored the only goal to give the visitors the 2 – 1 win.
It all starts for real on Friday as the Titans travel to Maryland to take on the Black Bears for a two-game series.
