Tigers Fall in Overtime to Giants

Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers will have to wait a little bit longer for their 1st overtime win of the season as the Vancouver Giants finished a third period comeback 3-2 at Co-op Place Tuesday night.


The Tigers had a slow start in the first period and the visiting Giants took advantage as Mazden Leslie gave Vancouver a 1-0 lead with less than five minutes left in the period. Tigers would get outshot 11-4.

But cue the 2nd period where the Tigers found another gear against the Giants and were rewarded as Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) scored his 5th goal of the season on a re-direct from a Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) point shot to tie the game at 1-1. The Tigers would continue to push the Giants in the 2nd as Rhett Parsons would send a shot on goal to Giants goaltender Jesper Vikman that would be kicked out straight to Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, Latvia) and he buries the rebound to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead after 2. Medicine Hat would outshoot Vancouver 21-8 in the 2nd stanza.

Off to the third period where the Tigers and Giants would go back and fourth with both Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) & Vikman were tremendous in goal but it would Zach Ostapchuk would score with the extra attacker with 5.4 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, just one shot would be taken as Jaden Lipinski would beat Langkow at 3:28 to give the Giants the additional point.

With the loss the Tigers drop their record to 4-6-3 while Vancouver is now 5-7-3 on the season. Medicine Hat would outshoot the Giants 31-29 and both teams would be successful on the penalty with the Giants being 3/3 and the Tigers 2/2.

Next up for the Tigers is the 1st of 8 meetings against their Central Division rivals the Calgary Hitmen at the 7 Chiefs Sportsplex Friday night. You can catch the game live on the home of the Tigers WILD 94.5 with Gino De Paoli starting with the pre-game show at 6:45 PM.
