Sugar Skulls Re-Sign DL Maurice Jackson

TUCSON – The Tucson Sugar Skulls have re-signed defensive line Maurice Jackson for the 2023 season.

DL Maurice Jackson (6’2, 290, Richmond University) had a productive rookie season last year for the Sugar Skulls.


Jackson led the Skulls in tackles for loss with 12.5 (42 yards) and sacks (5). He also displayed his versatility by recording total 34.5 tackles, 3 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, one interception, and one blocked kick in 16 games for Tucson.

He played collegiately at Richmond, where he finished his four-year career ranked fifth in program history with 20.5 sacks.

Jackson’s 2019 senior season with the Spiders earned him a Second Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, leading the team with 8.0 sacks, fifth-most in the conference. Maurice earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week for his performance (three sacks, four tackles-for-loss, six total tackles, a forced fumble and an interception) on Oct. 5 vs. UAlbany.

Prior to his senior year, Jackson was named Preseason Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year and was a preseason All-CAA selection.
