Storm Shut Out In Road Loss To Force

FARGO, ND. – The Tri-City Storm dropped a road game to the Fargo Force by a final score of 4-0 Thursday night at Scheels Arena. The team will return to action tomorrow in a road game against the Sioux City Musketeers.
The lone goal of Thursday’s 1st period was scored on the powerplay by Fargo’s Verner Miettinen. The goal was his first of the game, and second of the season. Joe Palodichuk and Jakob Stender each notched an assist on the scoring play. Fargo outshot Tri-City by a 10-7 margin in the 1st period. The Storm trailed by one goal entering Thursday’s 2nd period.
The Force notched two goals in the final seven minutes of the 2nd period to increase the team’s lead to 3-0 over the Storm. Dane Dowiak scored a goal during the 2nd period to briefly bring the game to a 1-1 tie. The goal was disallowed due to interference on Fargo goaltender Anton Castro, and the score remained 1-0. The first Fargo scoring play of the 2nd period was notched at 13:08 of the period. The goal was scored by Tanner Walos, and it was his second of the season. The goal by Walos was assisted by Bret Link and Jakub Stender. Verner Miettinen notched his second goal of the game, and third goal of the season, at 16:40 of the period to give the Force a 3-0 lead over the Storm. The goal was scored shorthanded and was assisted by Bret Link. Fargo outshot Tri-City 10-7 in the 2nd period and carried a 3-0 lead into Thursday’s 3rd period.
Charlie Russell scored his third goal of the season at 4:42 of the 3rd period to give Fargo a four-goal lead in the contest. Anthony Menghini notched the lone assist on the scoring play. The goal was the only scoring play of the 3rd period. Tri-City was outshot 8-7 in the 3rd period, and 28-21 overall in the contest.
Karlis Mezsargs recorded the loss in goal for the Storm after making 24 saves on Fargo’s 28 shots on net. Anton Castro collected a shutout in goal for Fargo after stopping all 21 of Tri-City’s 21 shots on net.
The Storm’s powerplay finished the game 0/7, and the penalty kill finished the night 3/4. Tri-City was unable to score a goal for the first time this season, and dropped to 3-4-0-0.
