Storm Set for Rivalry Matchup

LINCOLN, NE. – The Tri-City Storm is set for tonight’s rivalry matchup against the Lincoln Stars after splitting road games last weekend against the Omaha Lancers and Waterloo Black Hawks. Tonight’s battle is the first of thirteen in this year’s regular season series between the Storm and the Stars. Tonight’s game will be played at the Ice Box in Lincoln. Puck drop for the contest is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.


Tri-City (3-1-0-0) dropped a game for the first time this season in the team’s most recent game. The Storm lost a road battle on Saturday at Young Arena to the Waterloo Black Hawks by a final score of 4-1. Dane Dowiak netted Tri-City’s lone goal of the contest during the 3rd period. Goal scorers for the Storm through the opening four games of the season include Kieran Cebrian (3), Graham Gamache (2), Cameron O’Neill, Tanner Adams, Trevor Connelly, David Sacco, Nick Roukounakis, Sebastian Törnqvist, Brock James, Cale Ashcroft, and Dane Dowiak. Tri-City’s five powerplay goals netted this season are tied for the second most scored by a Western Conference team. The Storm’s penalty kill success rate of 88.5% is the 3rd best in the Western Conference to this point in the season. Tri-City finished the 2021-2022 regular season with a 9-0-1-0 head-to-head record against Lincoln. The last game played in the rivalry matchup at the Ice Box during the regular season was on the final day of the 2021-2022 regular season. Current University of St. Thomas (NCAA) forward Josh Eernisse notched a game-winning goal ten seconds into an overtime period to give the Storm a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Stars. Tri-City will host Lincoln tomorrow at the Viaero Center for the team’s Home Opener.

Lincoln (3-1-0-0) hosts the Storm tonight at the Ice Box following a 6-1 home win last Saturday over the Omaha Lancers. Keaton Peters was the only Lincoln player to net multiple goals in the victory. Michael Mesic, Wyatt Olson, Klavs Veinbergs, and Doug Grimes also netted goals in the contest for the Stars. Lincoln opened the 2022-2023 regular season with back-to-back victories over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Green Bay Gamblers at the 2022 DICK’s Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic. The only loss for the Stars in the opening four games of the regular season came at home on Friday, September 30th to the Sioux Falls Stampede. Lincoln dropped a 3-2 decision to Sioux Falls in the team’s annual Home Opener at the Ice Box. The Stars have outscored opponents by an 18-5 margin through four games played in the regular season. The +13 scoring margin posted by Lincoln is the largest current scoring margin in the USHL this season. The Stars’ powerplay is currently 2nd best in the conference with a conversion rate of 27.8%. Lincoln’s penalty kill is ranked 4th in the conference with a success rate of 86.7%.
