Storm Set for Preseason Battle with Buccaneers

SIOUX CITY, IA. – The Tri-City Storm is set to battle the Des Moines Buccaneers in the team’s second game of the preseason schedule this afternoon at the Tyson Events Center. The Storm defeated the Waterloo Black Hawks last night by a final score of 6-3 to begin play in the 2022 USHL West Preseason Showcase hosted by the Sioux City Musketeers. Today’s game between the Storm and the Buccaneers is scheduled to begin at 1:00pm CT.
Tri-City (1-0-0-0) overcame a two-goal deficit in last night’s opening game of the exhibition schedule to post a three-goal victory over the Waterloo Black Hawks. Daimon Gardner scored twice and also notched his first assist of the preseason during the game. Sebastian Törnqvist, Philippe Blais-Savoie, Nick Roukounakis, and David Sacco also netted goals in the game for the Storm. Sebastian Wraneschitz backstopped the Storm to victory in net by making 29 saves on 32 shots. The Storm’s powerplay struck twice, and the team also netted a shorthanded goal in the win. Tri-City won four of six games played against the Des Moines Buccaneers during the 2021-2022 regular season. The Storm will play an additional game in this year’s USHL West Preseason Showcase event tomorrow afternoon against the Fargo Force. Tomorrow afternoon’s game will serve as the Storm’s third and final game in the preseason event.
Des Moines (0-0-0-0) opens preseason play this afternoon against the Storm after posting an 18-39-3-2 record last season. The Buccaneers did not qualify for the 2022 Clark Cup Playoffs, and finished as the last place team in the USHL’s league standings. The Buccaneers scored 166 goals and allowed 238 goals during the 2021-2022 regular season. Following this afternoon’s matchup against Tri-City, Des Moines will play a neutral site game at 4:00pm tomorrow against the Omaha Lancers. The game will serve as the Buccaneers’ second and final game in this year’s USHL West Preseason Showcase. Des Moines will complete preseason play with two additional exhibition games against the Waterloo Black Hawks next week.
