Storm Set for Exhibition Matchup with Stars

LINCOLN, NE. – The Tri-City Storm is set for this afternoon’s exhibition matchup against the Lincoln Stars at the Ice Box. The team enters the final week of the preseason schedule after posting a 2-1-0-0 record last week at the USHL West Preseason Showcase at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Tri-City will battle the Lincoln Stars and Omaha Lancers this week for two final exhibition contests before beginning regular season play at the 2022 DICK’S Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania on Thursday, September 22nd. Puck drop for today’s rivalry matchup between the Storm and Stars is scheduled for 1:00pm CT.
Tri-City (2-1-0-0) returns to action in the 2022-2023 preseason schedule this afternoon following a 9-3 loss against the Fargo Force at the Tyson Events Center on Saturday afternoon. Artemi Nizameyev (2), and Brock James scored the Storm’s goals in the game. Goal scorers for Tri-City through the opening three games of the exhibition schedule include Cameron O’Neill (3), Daimon Gardner (2), Artemi Nizameyev (2), Brock James (2), Sebastian Törnqvist (1), Nick Roukounakis (1), and David Sacco (1). The Storm posted a 9-0-1-0 record against the Stars during the 2021-2022 regular season. Tri-City will face Lincoln thirteen times during the 2022-2023 regular season. The Storm will close out play in its five-game exhibition schedule on Thursday in a road contest against the Omaha Lancers.
Lincoln (0-0-0-0) is set to open preseason play this afternoon against Tri-City after posting a 35-20-3-4 record during the 2021-2022 regular season. The Stars dropped a home series to the Waterloo Black Hawks in the opening round of the 2022 Clark Cup Playoffs. Lincoln’s powerplay finished the regular season last year with a conversion rate of 20.4%, the ninth-best percentage in the league. The Stars’ penalty kill was third-best in the USHL during the 2021-2022 regular season (84.3%). Following this afternoon’s home matchup against in-state rival Tri-City, Lincoln will play an additional exhibition contest against the Omaha Lancers on Saturday afternoon.
