Storm Drops Preseason Contest to Force

SIOUX CITY, IA – The Tri-City Storm dropped a preseason contest to the Fargo Force by a final score of 9-3 Saturday afternoon at the Tyson Events Center. Artemi Nizameyev (2), and Brock James scored goals in the game for the Storm. Tri-City returns to action on Tuesday in a road game against Lincoln. Puck drop is set for 1:00pm CT.


Fargo scored the first six goals in Saturday’s game, including three in the 1st period. Noah Eyre opened the scoring at 7:34 of the 1st period for the Force. His goal was assisted by Ty Henricks. Charlie Russell notched a goal at 13:39 of the period to increase Fargo’s lead to two goals. Russell’s goal was assisted by Noah Ziskie and Tanner Walos. Boris Skalos scored a powerplay goal with nine seconds remaining in Saturday’s 1st period to give Fargo a 3-0 lead. Skalos’ goal was assisted by Tanner Walos and Anthony Menghini. Fargo outshot Tri-City 13-5 in the 1st period.

Joe Palodichuk notched the first goal of the 2nd period to give Fargo a four-goal lead. Palodichuk’s goal was scored at 5:28 of the 2nd period and was assisted by Anthony Menghini and Tanner Walos. J.P. Turner scored his second goal of the preseason at 6:20 of the 2nd period to give Fargo a 5-0 lead. Turner’s goal was assisted by Dakota MacIntosh. Boris Skalos scored his second goal of the game at 8:47 of the 2nd period to put Fargo ahead by six goals. Skalos’ second goal of the day was assisted by Anthony Menghini. Tri-City answered with a goal scored by Artemi Nizameyev at 13:27 of the 2nd period. The goal was his first of the preseason and was notched unassisted. The final goal of Saturday’s 2nd period was netted by Leo Gruba. Gruba’s powerplay goal was assisted by Joe Palodichuk and Kyle Smolen. Fargo outshot Tri-City 14-5 in the 2nd period, and carried a 7-1 lead into Saturday’s 3rd period.

Anthony Menghini increased Fargo’s lead to seven goals with a shorthanded scoring play at 5:10 of the 3rd period. Tanner Walos notched an assist on the play. Brock James scored his second goal of the preseason for Tri-City at 11:11 of the 3rd period. James’ goal was assisted by Trevor Connelly and Philippe Blais-Savoie. The Storm scored another goal with less than five minutes to play to bring the score to 8-3. The goal was scored unassisted by Artemi Nizameyev. The scoring play was Tri-City’s final goal of the contest. Fargo notched an additional goal in the game with thirteen seconds remaining in Saturday’s 3rd period. The goal was scored by Harper Bentz and was assisted by Noah Eyre. Tri-City outshot Fargo 10-9 in the 3rd period, but the team was outshot by Fargo 36-20 overall in the game.

Storm goaltender Niklas Erickson made 27 saves on 36 shots and recorded the loss in net for Tri-City. Anton Castro picked up the win in goal for Fargo after stopping all 8 of the Storm’s shots during the first half of the game. Nolan Suggs also saw time in goal for the Force, and made 9 saves on 12 shots to finish the game.

Tri-City dropped to 2-1-0-0 in preseason play and will play two additional exhibition contests before beginning the regular season at the 2022 USHL Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania on September 22nd.
