Stars Drop First Game of Back-to-Back vs. Omaha
September 16, 2022 – United States Hockey League (USHL) – Lincoln Stars News Release
The Lincoln Stars went to overtime for the second night in a row but fell to the Omaha Lancers, 2-1, on Friday night at the Ice Box.
Jared Mangan scored late in the second period to give the Stars the game’s first goal for the third straight game. Jack Larrigan set him up with a pass from beneath the goal line and Mangan got a few whacks in before sending it past netminder Michael Hrabal at the 16:38 mark of the second period.
The Stars peppered Hrabal with 38 shots on net. Brennan Ali led the way with six shots while Mangan, Adam Kleber and D.J. Hart had four apiece. Their busiest frame was the first, when they outshot the Lancers, 18-11, and also held them to just three shots in the third.
Matthew Romer scored both of Omaha’s goals, first tying the game on a wrist shot at 7:11 of the third and then ending the game with a tally just 32 seconds into overtime.
Lincoln has an opportunity to bounce back tomorrow as it travels north to face Omaha again at 1:30 p.m. in the final game of the preseason. The regular season begins on Thursday with the Dicks Sporting Goods Fall Classic at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pa. The Stars will face the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at 2:30 p.m. EST and then the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday at 12 p.m. EST.
