Saginaw, Mich. – The Saginaw Spirit continues their 2022-2023 opening weekend by playing the Niagara IceDogs this evening at The Dow Event Center in Riverfront Saginaw, Michigan.

Saginaw played their first game Saturday against the Guelph Storm and won by a final of 10-6. The Spirit broke the goal record for a season opener and a home opener in the win. A total of nine players scored multiple points.
Anaheim Ducks prospect Pavel Mintyukov had five points to his name. 2022 First Round Pick Michael Misa scored twice in his OHL debut. T-Bone Codd and Dean Loukus netted three assists, while Calem Mangone had two goals and an assist on the night.

Niagara faced off against the Flint Firebirds yesterday and won 3-2. Detroit Red Wings prospect Pasquale Zito netted two assists in the win after overcoming a two-goal deficit in the first period.
The IceDogs played their season opener against the Mississauga Steelheads with a 4-3 overtime loss. Pasquale Zito netted a goal and an assist in the loss.

Last Season:
The IceDogs and the Spirit did not play last season, however in the last five years, the teams both won and lost three games to each other. The Saginaw Spirit have not played an Eastern Conference team in 940 days. During the 2021-2022 season, OHL teams played within their conference all the way until the OHL Championship Series due to league protocols surrounding the Coronavirus.
