September 1, 2022 – Eastern League (EL)Reading Fightin Phils News Release

The Reading Fightin Phils fell 4-3 to the Hartford Yard Goats at Dunkin Donuts Park. The Fightins recorded five doubles and a triple, but went 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Here’s tonight’s Vision’s Federal Credit Union recap.

The Fightins took an early lead in the second inning. Jhailyn Ortiz was hit by a pitch and Ethan Wilson singled to reach. Jack Conley doubled them both in to put the R-Phils up 2-0.

Hartford struck in the bottom half putting up a run on Daniel Montano’s triple and another on an error to tie it back at two.

The Yard Goats added one in the third as Isaac Collins led off with a triple. Hunter Stovall singled him home to put the home team up 3-2.

Another leadoff triple, this time by Daniel Cope, started the bottom of the fourth. Julio Carreras singled him in for a 4-2 lead. This ended up being the Yard Goats winning run.

Reading led off the eighth with Johan Rojas’s double and Carlos de La Cruz walked to reach. Wendell Rijo doubled home Rojas to put the Fightin Phils within one. Wilson was intentionally walked to load the bases. McCarthy Tatum grounded into the first double play of the series to end the frame. Reading fell 4-3.

Josh Hendrickson got the start in his first game off the 60-Day Injured List. He allowed four runs on eight hits. The lefty left with two on and two outs in the fifth.

Mike Adams took over and stranded both runners. He has inherited 20 runners this summer and allowed only three to score. He finished with 2.1 innings pitched and just two hits with four strikeouts.

Billy Sullivan worked quickly in the eighth allowing just one hit and striking out two.
