Silvertips Edge Rockets 5-4 in Kelowna
October 15, 2022 – Western Hockey League (WHL) – Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips overcame a motivated Kelowna Rockets comeback on Friday night at Prospera Place, downing the Rockets 5-4 for their first road victory of the season.
Everett jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period, striking three times on six shots on net. Steel Quiring re-directed a powerplay goal for his first as a Silvertip, recorded against his former club, shortly followed by an Austin Roest tally. Olen Zellweger would convert on a slick feed from Roest, chasing Jari Kykkanen from the contest.
With Nicholas Cristiano in relief, Kelowna grabbed one goal back for a 3-1 deficit after one. Kykkanen returned to the net for the second period as Kelowna began mounting their gradual effort to equalize the score. Elias Carmichael wired a long shot home from the blueline in the second period, while Rilen Kovacevic brought the game back to even at 3:07 in the third period.
Roest buried his second of the game at 12:04 on a backhander to give the Tips back the lead, quickly followed by Beau Courtney’s second of the season off a takeaway and feed from Quiring.
Though the Rockets would pull back within one in the waning moments of the third with a 6-on-3 powerplay goal, Everett held on in the final seconds for a 5-4 victory.
Braden Holt stopped 27 of 31 in the win, his fifth of the season. Everett improves to 6-1-0 on the year with the victory.
The Tips host the Seattle Thunderbirds Saturday at 6 p.m. for Pink the Rink night. Tickets are available.
