Seven Winterhawks Invited to NHL Training Camps

With Neely Cup in the books and WHL preseason action underway, seven Portland skaters eligible for the 2022-23 WHL campaign are set to participate in NHL training camps ahead of the new season. Of the seven, four were drafted by their respective NHL club, including 2022 selection Marek Alscher – a third-round pick of the Florida Panthers.


Cross Hanas and Tyson Kozak have signed entry-level contracts with their NHL clubs, but both maintain their junior eligibility and can be assigned to the Winterhawks at their team’s discretion. Marek Alscher, Gabe Klassen, Ryan McCleary, Jan Špunar and James Stefan have yet to sign professional contracts and are expected to return to Portland for the 2022-23 campaign.

In addition, Portland’s 2021-22 graduates Jaydon Dureau (Tampa Bay), Taylor Gauthier (Pittsburgh) and Clay Hanus (Pittsburgh – Rookie) will each be attending an NHL camp as well before embarking on their first full professional seasons.
