September 5, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release

SAN JOSE, CA – Vancouver Whitecaps FC fell to a 2-0 loss against Western Conference foes San Jose Earthquakes at PayPal Park this Sunday night.

The first half saw the Earthquakes open the scoring inside the fourth minute. Cade Cowell’s footwork from the left side of the field led to Jackson Yueill’s first touch placing a ball to Jeremy Ebobisse, his strike gave his squad an early 1-0 lead.

Despite the ‘Caps pushing on with a few opportunities created, the home side sprung themselves on a counter attack. Cristian Espinoza’s short pass connected to Jamiro Monteiro, the midfielder’s finish then doubled the advantage in the 34th minute.

The second half saw the best opportunity come for the ‘Caps. With Pedro Vite winning the ball in the final third, the midfielder’s quick pass connected to Brian White, but the forward’s shot rolled just wide of the net in the 59th minute of the match.

The away side continued to look for answers throughout the match. Fullback Marcus Godinho went on a run from the left side, his solo effort created a chance that was held by goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski in the 75th minute.
