Running Back Maliek Stephens Signs with the Oilers

Tulsa, Okla. – Tulsa Oilers Football, proud member of the IFL, announced on Wednesday the signing of the team’s first running back, Maliek Stephens, out of Edward Waters University.

Stephens (25) comes off of his 2021 senior season with the Edward Waters Tigers of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), having complied 433 yards on the ground in his 102 rush attempts (4.2 yards per rush), for an average of 48.1 yards per game in nine contests. He put up a season-high 98 yards in 17 attempts (5.8 yards per rush) in the running game against Morehouse College to help lead Edward Waters to a 37-13 win on the road in Atlanta, GA.


“Maliek Stephens is as fast as they come,” said head coach Marvin Jones. “He isn’t afraid of contact in any regard and can catch the ball well out of the backfield. We are looking forward to seeing what he can do this season.”

The 5’8 200 lb Orange Lake, FL native, was a 2022 NFL draft prospect and will enter his first year in pro football.

The Oilers will begin their inaugural season in 2023.
