Royals Sneak Past Tigers in Overtime

Medicine Hat, AB – Despite having a lead going into the 3rd period, the Victoria Royals found a way to snatch two points away from the Medicine Tigers beating them 4-3 in overtime Saturday night.
It would be a tight first period between Victoria and Medicine Hat as goaltender Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) making his second consecutive start for the Tigers making 7 saves in the 1st while his counter part Tyler Palmer made 9 stops.
Off to the second period where the Tigers would finally break the seal as on a Medicine Hat power play , Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) would re-direct an Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) pass to make 1-0 Tigers at 5:31. The Tigers wouldn’t be done there in the second frame as Pasha Bocharov (Escondido, CA) would slide one past Palmer thanks to Kurtis Smythe (Cloverdale, BC) to make it 2-0 Medicine Hat at 18:24 and the Tigers would take that lead into the third.
When the final 20 minutes started the Royals found their stride as in a span of 4:50, the Royals would tally thanks to goals from Jake Poole & Riley Gannon before Poole would take a breakaway to give Victoria a 3-2 lead at 15:06. Medicine Hat would play some urgent hockey in the final 4:56 of the third as with May on the bench for the extra attacker, Dallon Melin would finally bang home a scramble in front the Royals net to tie the game with 49 seconds left in regulation.
Off to overtime and Jake Poole would have the last laugh as the Royals were able to cash in on a 2 on 1 early in the extra period netting his hat-trick and 8th of the season to give Victoria the the extra point.
The Tigers record moves to 4-6-2 on the season, despite the loss, the Tigers penalty kill put up a clean sheet killing off six Royal power plays while the Tigers power play would score once on six of their own opportunities. The final shots on goal saw the Tigers outshoot the Royals 33-25.
It’s a tight turn for the Tigers as they’ll host their 1st Tuesday night game of the year on November 1 as the BC Division’s Vancouver Giants will make their way to Coop Place. Game-time is set for 7:00, get your tickets at tixx.ca.
