WINNING WAYS: The Rochester Red Wings took game one of the series in Syracuse 3-2, winning just their seventh series-opening game of the year (7-16)…the win pushes the Wings to a 13-6 head-to-head record against the Mets’ top affiliate, the highest winning percentage against any opponent this season…seven of Rochester’s nine batters collected a hit, including a solo home run from LF Nick Banks, and RBI double from CF Andrew Stevenson, and a third-inning triple from DH Daniel Johnson…RHP Tommy Romero pitched three scoreless innings, his longest outing since 7/27 with Durham (4.0 IP), allowing three hits, and three walks while striking out just one batter…Rochester improves to 19-22 in one-run games after the 3-2 W…RHP Patrick Murphy gets the nod for Rochester tonight, as the Wings look to take game two in Syracuse.

XTRA, XTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT: The Wings picked up three extra-base hits in last night’s game including a homer, triple, and double…their three XBH moves them to 361 on the year, the fourth fewest in the International League…last night marked the 82nd game with three or fewer XBH but have logged an XBH in 121 of their 131 games…

Syracuse is one place lower than Rochester in the IL with 350 XBH despite having 33 more home runs than the Wings.

FEW WALKS, FEW STRIKEOUTS: The Wings struck out just three times last night marking the fifth time the wings have fanned three or fewer times this season…the Wings also walked three times which marked the 75th time they’ve walked three or fewer times…

The Wings have struck out 1,071 times this season, the fourth lowest total among IL teams.

The Wings have walked 419 times this season, the third lowest total among IL teams and 225 times fewer than Triple-A leading Oklahoma City.

KNOCK-CHESTER: The Wings collected seven hits Tuesday night, marking their 88th game recording seven hits or more in a contest…their 1,094 total hits is good enough for eighth place among International League teams in the hit category…the 2022 Red Wings need to average 12.4 hits a game for the remainder of the season to match their 2019 total of 1,330, which they accomplished in 140 games.

BANK SHOT: Nick Banks picked up a homer in last night’s win, his only hit of the contest, which extended his hitting streak to seven games since August 30 where he has gone 10-for-26 since…

The lefty swinger holds the second longest active hitting streak in the International League at seven games, collecting six extra-base hits during this span.

PLAY THE TRUMPETS: Wings RHP Jordan Weems picked up his 16th save of the season last night, working 1.1 innings to preserve the one-run victory…his 16 saves are tied for third-most in the International League, seven off the lead…the 29-year old is one of two Wings pitchers (min. 15.0 IP) to record an ERA under three (2.70) joining former teammate Tyler Clippard (2.23).

Since being optioned from Washington on 8/7, he has not allowed an earned run in 10 innings (8 games).

He has recorded a save in 10 of his past 14 appearances, including four consecutive from 8/11-8/24.

His 16 saves are the most for a Red Wings closer since 2010 when Anthony Slama logged 17 in 19 opportunities.

THREE BAG LIFE: DH Daniel Johnson logged a triple last night, marking the Wings’ 30th three-bagger of the year…Rochester’s 30 triples are the second most in a season since 2013 (34 in 2016) and are good enough to rank second among International League teams…the 2021 Wings logged just 15 in two fewer games

HUNGRY, HUNGRY, HOMERS: The Wings homered in the series opener thanks to a Nick Banks solo shot in the 7th inning…the homer was their seventh in their last 12 games…

Rochester’s 114 long balls this year is the second-fewest in the International League, 34 more than last place Buffalo and 71 less than first place Durham.

BLOOP, BLOOP, BLAST…TIE BALLGAME: The Wings have had a total of 83 games decided by a total of three runs or fewer, posting a 37-46 record in those contests.

– By comparison, Syracuse has played a total of 79 games that have been decided by three runs or fewer.

ANDREW STREAK-ENSON: LF Andrew Stevenson extended his on-base streak to 22 games with a third-inning double in Tuesday’s contest…he would go 1-for-4 with an RBI (58)…his 22-game streak is the second longest on-base streak by a Wing this season (Palacios, 30)…since his streak began on 8/12, the Louisiana native is 26-for-86 (.302) with three home runs, a triple, four doubles, ten RBI, 17 runs scored, and 10 walks…his 132 knocks on the season is good enough to rank fourth in the International League.

Coming into today’s contest, Stevenson holds the third longest active on-base streak in the International League.

Should Stevenson overtake the IL hit rankings, he’d be the first Wing to lead the IL in hits since Matt Hague in 2017 with his 149 knocks…Stevenson’s 132 hits are the most since Hague’s 2017 total.

YES-GOWSKI: 1B John Nogowski reached base via base-on-balls in the sixth inning last night to extend his on-base streak to 13 games dating back to 8/23 at Indianapolis…coming into tonight’s game, the Florida native is batting .222/.375/.267, going 10-for-45 with more walks (10) than strikeouts (6) during his streak.

Nogowski has now reached base safely in 28 of his first 30 games with the Red Wings.

MURPHY’S LAW: Rochester righty Patrick Murphy will get the ball for game two of the six-game set in Syracuse…he is coming off a start on 8/31 against Toledo in which he worked four innings (tied season high), allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three…

In three starts this season, he posts a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings pitched, compared to a 5.55 ERA out of the bullpen (33 games)

Since 8/4, he has struck out 16 while walking just three (5.33 K/BB).
