Revolution Host New York City FC on Sunday Night

September 3, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)New England Revolution News Release

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (8-9-11; 35 pts.; 9th in East) conclude the three-game homestand on Sunday night when the club hosts New York City FC (13-9-6; 45 pts.; 4th in East) at Gillette Stadium. Sunday’s match kicks off at 8:00 p.m. ET and airs on WSBK-TV38, myRITV, and 98.5 The Sports Hub with Brad Feldman, Charlie Davies, and Tamara Brown calling the action. The match also airs on 1260 AM Nossa Radio in Portuguese. Following Sunday’s match, Gillette Stadium will host a postgame firework display for fans in attendance.

New England enters the month of September only one point below the playoff line in the Eastern Conference with six games remaining in the regular season. The Revolution gained a point in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Chicago Fire FC. Three of New England’s final six matches are at home, while five of the remaining contests are against Eastern Conference opposition.

The Revolution have dominated the home series against New York City FC, posting a 5-2-2 mark in Foxborough. New England has recorded points in four of the last six meetings with the Bronx Blues, 3-2-1. NYCFC, fourth in the Eastern Conference, fell to D.C. United, 2-1, in its most recent match on Wednesday. The defending MLS Cup champions carry a two-game losing streak into Sunday’s match and are 1-5-0 over their last six games.

The Revolution continue to make Gillette Stadium a defensive fortress, with three shutouts in the last four home games. New England has accrued points in 10 of the last 11 home games. Goalkeeper Djordje Petrović backstopped the Revolution to Wednesday’s shutout performance, New England’s eighth clean sheet in 2022. Petrović punctuated his 15th MLS start with his league-leading third penalty-kick save of the season. The 22-year-old Serbian, who is making a case for MLS Young Player of the Year consideration, registered three clean sheets in August and was rewarded with a spot on the MLS Team of the Week bench, marking the newcomer’s fifth selection.

A familiar face returned to New England’s lineup this week in forward Gustavo Bou, who has now played twice following a six-game injury absence, including a 90-minute performance on Wednesday against Chicago. He provides another dangerous attacking partner for Carles Gil, who is one goal or assist away from eclipsing 20 goal contributions for the third time in MLS. The league leader in chances created with 95, Gil needs only five more to surpass the century mark for the third time – a feat only he has accomplished since 2020.

Meanwhile, local product Noel Buck, a 17-year-old midfielder and Homegrown Player from Arlington, Mass., is looking to build on his first MLS start. Buck played a career-high 80 minutes on Wednesday, his fourth appearance in the last five games.
