Republic FC Blanked by LA Galaxy II

October 2, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)Sacramento Republic FC News Release

Carson, Calif. – After securing a playoff berth earlier in the weekend, Republic FC fell 2-0 to LA Galaxy II on Sunday night. The match closes Sacramento’s 2022 road slate in the regular season.

A 7th minute goal by LA’s Preston Judd would end as the eventual decider. All the opportunities belonged to the Indomitable Club in the second half as they put the hosts on their heels, but a tough own goal at the hour mark would seal their fate.

Following Los Dos’ opening score, a pair of crosses from Jack Gurr on the right nearly allowed Republic FC to pull even. The Englishman fielded a ball from the left in the 18th minute before sending service into the center, but it was swallowed up by the hosts’ goalkeeper. Gurr nearly secured an assist again at the half-hour mark, but his cross was headed just over the bar by Luther Archimede crashing the net.

Republic FC found themselves with a one-man advantage before the first half came to a close. Galaxy II’s Michael Salazar was shown red in the 37th minute after taking down Matt LaGrassa with a dangerous challenge. LA nearly put one in its own net moments later, but a deflection off the leg of defender Dante Campbell bounced away after going off the woodwork.

Coming out of the break, the Quails began to find momentum up top. Searching for an equalizer, Zeiko Lewis – on for Tiago Suarez – came close to netting an equalizer with a tremendous strike saved by the opposing goalkeeper. The chance energized the club as they controlled possession for all of the final 45 minutes and outshot the SoCal club 10-2. But Sacramento wasn’t able to get one over the line before the final whistle sounded.

After the club’s final road match of the 2022 regular season, Republic FC will play their final two at Heart Health Park. The club welcomes Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC to the River City next Sunday, October 9 on Breast Health Awareness Day for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff. Tickets are available at SacRepublicFC.com/single-match-tickets, and the contest will be broadcast live on Antenna TV 40.2, FOX40.com and the FOX40 News mobile app, and streaming on ESPN+. The following week, San Diego Loyal SC comes to Sacramento on Fan Appreciation night.
