Renegades Drop Game to BlueClaws

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium.
With the loss, the Renegades split the series with the BlueClaws and fell 0.5 games behind the Brooklyn Cyclones for first place in the South Atlantic League North Division with six games remaining.
Jersey Shore struck first in the top of the fourth against Hudson Valley starter Juan Carela. Nick Matera lifted a sacrifice fly and Sal Gozzo banged an RBI double to give the BlueClaws a 2-0 lead.
Carela (1-3) lasted 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, walking four and striking out five.
In the top of the sixth, the BlueClaws plated two more off Bailey Dees. Nicolas Torres laced a two-run single to extend the lead to 4-0.
Jersey Shore added insurance in the top of the seventh. Dees walked Jared Carr, and Leandro Pineda reached on an error. Carr raced home on a wild pitch, and Kendall Simmons brought home Pineda with a grounder to create a 6-0 cushion. Both unearned runs were charged to Dees.
Dominic Pipkin (3-7) earned the win for the BlueClaws, tossing five shutout innings, allowing only three hits, walking one and striking out three.
Hudson Valley showed life in the bottom of the ninth. Tyler Hardman singled, stole second, T.J. Rumfield singled, and Grant Richardson drove in Hardman on a fielder’s choice. However, Rodolfo Sanchez bounced back to retire the side and secure the victory.
Hardman finished 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored, wrapping up the series 7-for-23 (.304) with two home runs and eight RBIs.
Hudson Valley will enjoy an off day tomorrow before visiting the Wilmington BlueRocks to begin the final regular season series at Frawley Stadium. First pitch on Tuesday night is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:15.
