Rattlers Acquire QB Jorge Reyna in Trade with San Diego
October 20, 2022 – Indoor Football League (IFL) – Arizona Rattlers News Release
PHOENIX – The Arizona Rattlers have acquired quarterback Jorge Reyna from the San Diego Strike Force in exchange for quarterback Demry Croft.
Reyna started in 8 games for the Strike Force last season during his rookie campaign.
In those 8 games he made quite the impact, throwing for a league-best 163.1 yards per game to go with 28 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions. He connected on 109 of 193 pass attempts (57%) for 1,305 total passing yards to go with his 28 touchdowns.
Head Coach & Team President Kevin Guy stated: “This is a win-win for both organizations and players. This gives Croft a fresh start and Reyna an opportunity to compete to be the guy in a great organization that has high expectations competing for championships. Reyna had the highest touchdown to interception ratio in the league last year (7 to 1). That ratio is one of the most important tools we have in evaluating a quarterback. He has all the qualities to be a great leader and his work ethic is contagious.”
Reyna was also a threat on the ground, rushing for 279 yards on 46 attempts, good for a team-high 6.1 yards per carry. He scored six rushing touchdowns in his eight games played as well.
The dual-threat quarterback led the IFL in touchdown to interception ratio at 7:1 last season, showing poised decision-making for the Strike Force during his rookie season.
If Reyna’s 8 games were doubled to emulate a 16-game season projection, his stats would put him on pace for 2,610 yards, 56 touchdowns passing, and 12 rushing touchdowns. Those numbers would have him in the conversation for MVP alone.
Reyna played collegiately at Fresno State University where he was voted a captain by the team as a senior. He was the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback in all 12 games of 2019, completing 236-of-365 passes for 2,655 yards on the year, along with 15 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
He was a force in the run game with 98 carries for 264 yards and two touchdowns and led the conference and was ranked No. 22 in the NCAA in completion percentage (64.7).
Reyna ranked fourth in the Mountain West in pass efficiency with a 133.3 rating. In his first start as a Bulldog, he completed 19 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns at USC (Aug. 31, 2019).
The Downey, CA native attended Downey High School for his first three years before transferring to Pasadena HS for his senior season. In three seasons as a varsity quarterback, Reyna threw for 3,580 yards and 30 touchdowns, and led Downey HS to the CIF Southeast Division Championship as a sophomore in 2012.
