Rangers Acquire Goaltender Costantini from Hamilton

October 13, 2022 – Ontario Hockey League (OHL)Kitchener Rangers News Release

Kitchener, Ont. – The Kitchener Rangers announced today that the club has completed a trade with the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Kitchener trades a conditional sixth round pick in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection and Windsor’s second round pick in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection to Hamilton. In return, the Rangers receive goaltender Marco Costantini.

“We are excited to add such a quality goaltender like Marco to our team,” said Kitchener Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie. “We really like both our current goalies and have extreme belief in both, but with the uncertainty of only having one goalie available right now coupled with the ability to add a proven and championship winning goalie, we felt this was the best decision for the team right now. We look forward to seeing Marco in a Ranger uniform this weekend and welcome him and his family to Kitchener.”

Costantini, 20, was statistically the OHL’s best goaltender last year in goals against average (2.32), save percentage (.917) and shutouts (6), having played 45 games during the 2021-22 regular season. Notably, he was also awarded the 2021-22 Dave Pinknet Trophy as a part of the OHL’s top goaltending tandem last year.

A proven winner, Costantini played a critical role for Hamilton, winning the Leyden Trophy as the OHL’s East Division champions, the Eastern Conference regular season, the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the league’s best overall record, the Bobby Orr Trophy as winners of the OHL’s Eastern Conference Playoffs, and the J. Ross Robertson Cup as winners of the OHL Playoffs Final to advance to the 2022 CHL Memorial Cup. A veteran at the championship level, Costantini played in all five Memorial Cup games for Hamilton, including the championship game, and recorded a 3.34 GAA and a .901 save percentage. Costantini was named to the OHL’s 2021-22 Third All-Star Team and was also invited to compete in the Toronto Maple Leafs Training Camp this past September.

“I’m super excited to get going,” said Costantini. “Obviously Kitchener is a really good place. Jay McKee told me a lot of great things about Kitchener and that I am going to really enjoy it there. I’m looking forward to playing new teams and having new rivalries in the Western Conference.”

Costantini will wear number 33 for Kitchener and is anticipated to be with the Rangers in time for tomorrow’s home game at The Aud.

The Kitchener Rangers return home to The Aud for a pair of games this Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
