RailRiders Rappel Past Bulls 14-2
September 11, 2022 – International League (IL) – Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC – Bulls right fielder Luke Raley ripped two hits, including a home run, and shortstop Vidal Brujan bashed two knocks, however RailRiders left fielder Chris Owings smashed two longballs and drove in five runs in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s 14-2 victory over Durham on Sunday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The loss combined with Jacksonville’s victory over Iowa narrows Durham’s lead to one and a half games in the International League East Division standings.
The RailRiders roared ahead in the opening frame with a four-spot, started by CF Blake Perkins’ RBI double. Raley would then go yard with a solo shot in the second to narrow the deficit to three before crushing an RBI triple off the right field wall to make it 4-2. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre would make it a 6-2 advantage in the sixth when RF Ryan Lamarre launched a two-run homer, followed by Perkins’ RBI single one inning later. Owings would then leave the yard with a two-run blast in the eighth to increase the lead to 9-2 before going deep again as part of a five-run ninth.
Raley (2-5, R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI) and Brujan (2-5, R, 2B) led Bulls batters with two hits apiece. RailRiders DH Rob Brantly (3-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) and 1B Armando Alvarez (3-5, 3 R, HR, RBI), meanwhile paced the road side’s order with three knocks each.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre reliever Sean Boyle (5.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 8 SO) earned the victory, fanning eight batters over five innings of support. Durham starter Easton McGee (2.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 SO) suffered the defeat.
Following an off day on Monday, the Bulls begin a six-game road series versus the Atlanta Braves Triple-A affiliate Gwinnett Stripers on Tuesday, September 13. First pitch of the series is set for 7:05pm, with starting pitchers not yet determined.
Durham returns home for their final homestand of the 2022 campaign on Tuesday, September 20 to face off against the Baltimore Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate Norfolk Tides. First pitch of the series opener at Durham Bulls Athletic Park is set for 6:35pm.
