Preview: October 20 vs Halifax Mooseheads

October 20, 2022 – Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Charlottetown Islanders face their first true adversity of the season as they head into tonight’s matchup against the Halifax Mooseheads.

The infirmary bay has started to fill up and already appears to be running short on beds, with many players already ruled out or deemed game-time decisions ahead of Thursday’s game. At forward, Alexis Michaud and Will Allen have been ruled out of tonight’s game, while Jeremie Biakabutuka and Jacob Squires will also sit, all with day-to-day injuries. They join Nathan Mossey on the sidelines. Owen Hollingsworth and Sam Bowness will be game-time decisions, both also dealing with ailments of their own.

In addition, forward Peter Repčík, acquired from the Cape Breton Eagles as part of the Oliver Satny trade, will not be in the lineup due to travel issues getting to PEI from Cape Breton. Charlottetown has recalled 16-year-old defenseman Simon Duguay from the Northern Moose (NBPEIMU18HL) for tonight’s game.

Despite the roster setbacks, Charlottetown (4-2-1-0) continues to impress on the ice. They’re coming off a 4-1 win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs, a victory propelled by a two-goal performance from Lucas Romeo and another sterling 30-save effort by Francesco Lapenna. Although early in the season, the win pulled them into a logjam at the top of the Maritime Division standings with the Mooseheads, Acadie-Bathurst Titan, and Moncton Wildcats, all with nine points apiece.

The Mooseheads (4-1-1-0) meanwhile are coming off their first regulation loss of the season on Sunday, a 5-3 loss to the Moncton Wildcats on the road. Halifax got out to a 2-1 lead early in the second period before Moncton rattled off four straight goals en route to the victory. Mooseheads captain Attilio Biasca scored twice in defeat.

On the injury front, forwards Zachary L’Heureux and Stephane Huard Jr, defenseman Jack Martin, and goaltender Brady James were all listed on Sunday as injured; L’Heureux’s injury is long-term, while the other three injuries are considered day-to-day.

In good news for the Mooseheads, defenseman Owen Phillips has been selected to represent Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge at the end of the month. The Mooseheads selected Phillips 7th overall in the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft.

You can still get tickets for tonight’s game by visiting the Eastlink Centre box office, by phone at 902-629-6625, or online. Don’t forget that it’s Student Night! Tickets for students are just $4, while all adult beverages for everyone are also only $4!
